Leroy was sitting atop one of Mariposa's tallest buildings, across from a museum, enjoying the nighttime view. He was a human at the moment. However, he would have never been able to get to his current location if he wasn't able to turn into animals. Getting to places you could never have reached before was just one of the many perks to being an animorph. As he gazed out onto the scene, Leroy thought about how his life had changed since arriving in Mariposa. He missed his parents, his brother, his friends, but knew he could never go back. He tried to send them an email one time, but then his entire computer mysteriously crashed. He suspected SPECTER had something to do with it. He never tried again after that. Leroy leaned carefully over the edge of the building and looked down. A familiar sense of vertigo overcame him like it did every time he did that. It certainly was a long way down. "I suppose I should head home," Leroy said to himself. But he didn't move. He decided to stay a couple more minutes. Leroy's mind drifted off into his memories once again.

Naomi was experimenting in the dark. She was trying to see how far she could fly in her cockatoo morph without hitting anything. Okay, so she had been busy at the vet's office, but that didn't mean she couldn't have fun, right? This was her way of having fun.
At first she was flying where she could see some light through the city, but then she got a little mischievous. Naomi decided to go higher, if she could. She saw the museum and tried to go above the building near the museum. Maybe it was a little too high as she found herself needing to land. <Ahhhh! Look out! Lookoutlookoutlookout!> she shouted out to no one in particular as she crash landed on top of the building. <Ow...>

Allie had followed Leroy when he'd morphed and flown, of course she'd been following from the ground as a cat. Everyone who saw her in that morph just assumed she was a stray and let her be. She'd never suspected how able she would be to sneak around in this morph when she'd acquired it. It didn't feel like her random choice had been so dumb anymore now.
The city was so pretty at night. If she hadn't been sitting staring around me might never have noticed a dark figure creeping toward the museum doors. Leroy probably didn't know she was here, but she felt like maybe revealing that she'd followed him would be the lesser of two evils here. That feeling only got stronger when a second figure showed up.
Let's see. Two people, dressed all in black, and sneaking around a museum. Headline: Dumb thieves caught in the act by an alley cat. First things first, figure out what they were doing. Hopefully they'd be just as willing to disregard the stray cat as everyone else. With that on her mind she padded across the street, hoping Leroy would be in range if she needed back-up.
((If someone can NPC the thieves that would be great. I have no muse for that at the moment.))

Jeremy was exploring. He had been adapting to his life as an animorph, so now he felt he needed to get more used to the city he was supposed to be helping to protect. And would you look at that, he thought, as two dark figures ran up the steps of a large building in front of him. That place looks closed. His mind jumped to the obvious conclusion. Dammit, I'm useless in a situation like this. I need more morphs. There wasn't enough time to go back for help, so he crept forward, thankful for his skill at being silent. Of course, if they looked his way, they'd see him.
Sure enough, the two figures began working with the doors. They're going in the front? That wouldn't have been my entrance of choice. He frowned. There had to be something he could do... He crept around to the bottom of the stairs so he could see them better.

Leroy saw something white, or whitish, moving toward the building he was on, not far below. <Ahhhh! Look out! Lookoutlookoutlookout! Ow...> he heard someone say. The last thing he expected to see up here was Naomi crashing into the building. At least he assumed it was Naomi. She was the only one he knew who had a bird morph like that, and the thought speech had sounded feminine.
"You alright?" he asked, craning his neck over the ledge to get a better look. He quickly pulled back, nervous that he would slip and fall. He began focusing on his duck morph so that he would be able to check on her and/or help her if need be. He was as of yet unaware of the robbery in progress below him at the museum.

Despite its superior abilities, the vulture did indeed have its weaknesses. Normally, Jamilan did not stay up late at night, but he was restless, and had seen others heading out into the night. The sun was down, replaced by crescent moon. As Jamilan flew, he found it to be slightly tiring on his wings, and the bird wanted to sleep, because the sun was down. He smelled various things: garbage for the most part.
He was a bit upset with himself. He couldn’t find a job; was he so pathetic that he could not work well with others? Was there nothing he could do? Why did he have to be so capable, yet unable to work due to what he was? These questions pestered him for a while, then he grew weary as he stared down at the city lights.
The vulture picked up the scent of carrion, and tired, he followed it...until seeing Jeremy snapped him out of it. <Oh, hello, Jeremy,> he said privately to his fellow Animorph. He noticed the two figures, trying to get into the museum. Jamilan glided slowly downwards, landing on a streetlight, and using the light to see. <Why are they trying to get into that building?> he mused; he could not understand what was going on.

[ Is everyone from Mariposa here? xD Somebody, get Nate and Nadia. ]
Savannah had been simply dawdling all day long since she hadn't started work yet. She had visited two museums, a park and the beach that day. She had hardly noticed when night had begun to fall. For a few moments she considered what she could do. Go home? To do what?
She seriously considered going to a club, all by herself. The quickly scratched the option when she realized this would be her first time going to a night club; her mother had been very strict after here father's death. She wasn't allowed to be out on streets after seven o'clock on summer nights and five on winter nights. However, she had never rebelled even though she was old enough to move out, only because she felt like she couldn't deal with it. She had no problems with coming home since she had nothing to do outside after sundown.
She began walking toward nowhere in particular, dawdling along, reading billboards, looking at buildings, but not really paying attention; her mind had slipped back to the thought of her mother. What was she doing now? Was she fine?
Savannah was getting pained every time she thought about her mother, which happened often. Even the smallest things triggered the memory of her and she found out that she thought about her mother for long periods of time.
She stopped when she was in front of the museum she visited earlier, to see it had been lighted up gloriously. She watched the museum for a while, leaning against a wall. At some point, she thought she saw two shadowy figures crouching. She squinted hard to see what were they doing when the museum was closed and abandoned. The figures crept toward the museum door, and as they walked out of the shadows Savannah saw that they were wearing ski masks and black clothes, which only had one explanation in her mind: Thieves.
She mused for a second while burglars always wore masks and black, couldn't they be more original since everyone knew what tow people in black and masks would be doing, sneaking around a museum.
She snapped out her thoughts quickly, she had to do something. Normally, she would walked away quickly as soon as she noticed the figures, but that certainly wasn't what she was anymore. She looked around desperately and her eyes landed on another figure crouching by the stairs, hidden from the thieves' view. She thought she could make out the face. Wait, Nate? What was he doing here? She looked around once again and spotted a stray cat, a bunch of people in suits and a women walking her two dogs. She looked up to the sky to see clouds which reflected orange light of the city. She began scanning the skies for something, a sign of an Animorph, anything. She saw two crows and finally, a vulture. A vulture certainly was not a nocturnal bird. She had learned that when she had taken a sudden interest in birds when she was eleven. But a fellow Animorph? She couldn't be too sure.
She looked at Jeremy again, trying grab his attention somehow, without the thieves noticing. She thought about whistling loudly, but it would still be impossible to be heard over the roar of the passing cars. She could wave her arms up and down, but she wasn't likely to be noticed by Jeremy. So she looked up to the skies again, spotting the vulture, she began waving at it, just a slight movement, the only a vulture would notice, since she was illuminated by the street light and the headlights of the passing cars. If it was an Animorph, that is.

Jeremy nearly leapt out of his skin when Jamilan spoke. He couldn't answer, obviously, since he wasn't in morph. He did, however, glance around looking for him. He didn't see Jamilan, but he saw Savannah. Was she waving at something? He looked around and could see no one else around but himself. He made a frantic cutting motion across his neck. If the robbers noticed him, well, he couldn't be sure they weren't armed. And all he had going for him was the ability to turn into a bird. And Savannah would probably go the same way.
In looking around, he noticed a cat, probably feral, crossing the street. He desperately wished he'd thought to get a more versatile morph than the hawk. A cat for example, couldn't fly, but it could move around really well, it could operate day AND night, and it was silent. Well, wishing for a better morph wouldn't help him now, and he had no time to go acquire one. If he only had his cellphone with him.

Naomi shook her head and heard Leroy's voice speaking to her. <Y-Yeah, I'm fine. Just missed my target. Okay, let's see if I can get this baby higher.> She pushed herself up on her feet and shook her cockatoo body.
<Where are you exactly? Above me?> Naomi asked him. She flapped her wings for take off but then decided to take a breather. <This isn't the best place to demorph, is it....Not what I had in mind at all....> She didn't know how much time she had left, and sighed. <Of course, I can't get my mind straightened out enough to think of what to do.>
{I heard my name....who needs Nadia, now?}

Leroy laughed a bit to himself. Naomi seemed a bit disoriented, but overall okay. <<Yeah, I wouldn't try demorphing right there if I were you. You sound a bit shaken up and we don't want you stumbling off the edge when you're half-way back to human. I'm almost done morphing into my own bird morph, so I'll be down there to help in just a second.>>
After the last few changes happened, Leroy launched himself off the side of the building. It was exhilarating! One moment the ground was right beneath his feet, the next moment he was a thousand feet in the air. In the air!
Leroy let the bird mind do its thing and direct his body to do the necessary arial acrobatics. He flew away from the building for about twenty feet, slowed down and hovered as he turned back toward the building, then let himself drift down to the ledge Naomi was on, landing with a plop. His wings were flapping the entire time. That was the thing about flying as a duck. You had to earn your right to stay in the air. It was like swimming through incredibly thin water.
<<You okay? Lets get you down to ground level so you can demorph. Or maybe the roof of the museum would be better so that people on the street don't see you. And don't worry, I'll try and catch you if you have any trouble.>> That last sentence would have been said with a wink had Leroy been human. He pushed off from the building once again and headed down to street level.

((Apparently I am in this thread! LOL! ummmmm...))
Nate was crouched by the stairs, in a hiding spot he'd found when the dark figures had snuck past. He himself was wearing dark clothing and they must not have noticed him, so he'd been able to duck out of the way rather quickly when he spotted people who were far too blatantly dressed as burglers. Seriously guys, he pondered to himself. If you're going to rob some place, do it right.
In all honesty, he was planning to watch them and see how far the idiots got before they messed something up and got caught. It would have been some great entertainment to cap off his evening, really. But when he noticed Jeremy approaching the stairs, he himself having obviously noticed the thieves as well, Nate sighed to himself. d**n, so much for letting the idiots do all the work for me. Guess it's time to get into action.
He quickly put on a more serious face as if he was pondering a plan to stop them and then nodded to Jeremy in acknowledgment of his presence.

Jamilan recalled Savannah, that girl he had greeted to Mariposa on her first day. She waved slightly to him, and he spoke in thought-speech to her to acknowledge that he had seen her. <Hello, Savannah,> he said privately. Then, suddenly, he heard the sound of wings; another bird? Was it an Animorph, or just a bird?
The Andalite was still confused; why were the humans trying to get into the museum? He wondered, as well, why they were getting so much attention. And what was that flash of movement by the stairs? It must have been nothing. Instead, he turned to the bird that had come down. If it were a normal bird, it would not respond. But if it was one of them, it probably would.
<This is Jamilan,> the Andalite said privately to the bird. <I assume you are one of us?>

Savannah stopped waving when she received a 'hello' from the vulture. Satisfied to know it was Jamilan, she looked away from the vulture, to the thieves. Not really sure what to do, she decided to consider the options more thoroughly. She only had one morph; White-tailed Kite, which wouldn't be much of a use at night. Run to the nearest police station? She didn't even know where that was. Get to where Nate and Jeremy was hiding? The thieves were bound to notice her.
She had never been much help in a crisis, always pondering, rather than taking action. Some people might have thought that was a good thing, thinking before acting, but it usually was no help to Savannah whatsoever.
While Savannah mused, and got nowhere, the thieves were already taking action.
"Okay," the burlier one said. "Shouldn't be too hard. Only two guards. Sam should have already disconnected the alarm system. When we go inside, take a right, into the hall of mirrors. Grab the golden figurine and replace it with this," he reached into the bag and pulled out a gold coloured plastic figurine. The other one snatched it out his hand. "Then-" the burlier one had started to say but was cut off the other one. "I know what I need to do, I don't need you to tell me what to do." a feminine voice hissed. "Just make sure you don't mess up. You've messed up before. I don't think you need reminding what Jane will do if you mess up this time." she said emphasizing on the word Jane. The burlier one seemed to tense up slightly bur remained silent. He began creeping towards a basement window, which was left open a crack, closely followed by his partner.
Meanwhile, Savannah was still pondering, looking from the vulture to Nate and Jeremy.

Nate was pondering his options. As far as he knew, Jeremy only had a bird morph, so he wasn't sure was could be accomplished if they were birds. Surveillance, maybe... but a falcon and a kestrel flying inside a building could only do so much without air currents to give them some height and speed. There would be a lot more wing flapping if they planned on diving in for an attack. Way too tiring. He decided to ask, just in case, so he whispered to Jeremy as quietly as possible. "do you have any new morphs yet?"
Maybe his squirrel would be able to infiltrate and follow quietly, Nate thought. As much as he wanted to try out his new leopard morph, it probably wasn't an option yet. Not on the street. But... maybe once inside... find some place to morph again... take them by surprise...
He grinned just pondering it.
Alright he thought to himself. Looks like my option is a squirrel. ...for now...

Leroy landed on the corner of the museum roof with a complete lack of gracefulness. Ducks were not graceful fliers. As he waited for Naomi to follow him down, he was shocked to hear a different voice in his head. It was Jamilan.
<<Yeah, it's Leroy,>> he said in response. He looked around to see if he could figure out where Jamilan was. In the process he spotted a bunch of people he knew. He saw the new girl, Savannah, and he saw Jeremy and Nate, plus an out of place vulture. He also saw a cat, but couldn't be sure if it was one of them or not.
<<Whoa, this must be an animorphs convention or something,>> he said to all of his teammates within thought speech range. <<What are you all...>> That's when he noticed the all too obvious burglars. <<Ohhh. So do we follow them in or something? I can keep watch if anyone needs to, you know, 'change.'>>
