Leopold nodded, agreeing with Rox. Well, not about the butchering of the bird, but that the others were being a bit idiotic talking about killing the bird and stuff. He really didn’t want his personal issues getting in the way of all of this. It really could mess things up later. They had to focus. He watched her morphing, as he undressed to his own morphing suit. It wasn’t a pleasant show, that was for sure.
Johnny was next. The transition was different each time for each different person, as always with morphing – and it wasn’t a pleasant transition either. As Johnny morphed, Leopold was silent, but decided he would morph too. He closed his eyes and envisioned the , and the changes began. The first thing he could see were the lines being drawn on his skin, like an etch-a-sketch pattern. Then he resisted the urge to scratch as the feathers became 3-D. Just as they did, his nose hardened, and stretched out to a beak, and he fell to the ground as his legs shriveled.
Then, he began to shrink. During the shrinking process, his organs began sloshing around and reasserting himself, and he could hear the sickening sounds of the bones changing places as well. He could see a boy he hadn’t met yet approaching, but couldn’t say anything to him. He could only hope that he was an Animorph, or they’d have a problem on their hands. Eventually, though, the morph finished, and Leopold straightened himself, bird instincts settling in. The pelican didn’t have the keen eyesight of the hawk, but it definitely could see and hear better than a human. He loved birds.
<This is cool,> he remarked, now that he was a pelican. He turned his gaze on Ray, who was looking embarrassed and apologetic. <Don’t sweat it,> he said. <By the way, I’m Leo. I don’t believe we’ve met.> He had to be an Animorph, telling by how he’d speaking.

Hope took off her outer layer of clothes to reveal the bikini top and tight shorts she'd grabbed to use as a morphing suit today. She certainly wasn't ashamed of her body, but right now it didn't seem like the right thing to be wearing anymore. Still, the leotards she'd wanted to use hadn't been available, meaning it was in the laundry.
Hope focused on the DNA of the pelican. She'd done this before with her skunk morph, but she had a feeling this would be different. She saw Ray running up though, and stopped just as the feather pattern finished spreading across her revealed skin.
"No problem Ray, just grab that pelican quick before it's out of the trance," she said, indicating the bird who was still standing there not doing much. "We're using it to go on a little trip. Meaning we're getting stronger morphs without alerting Sarah."
That out of the way, she returned to the morph. The pattern of feathers sprang to reality with an itching sensation that traveled along all of Hopes body. Her nose and mouth stretched their way outward, and she realized how far they'd have to go to match that of the bird. Everything inside her started to go from there with a sloshing and squishing sound as her insides shifted around. This is so gross, but it's no better with the skunk really.
Her bones were hollowing, somehow she knew that, and her body size was shrinking down. She started to feel like she was falling over, but her arms were already so much like wings that she wouldn't be able to catch herself. When it was finally done she stood there for a moment in silence.
<<That was different.>> The thing she noticed right away is this morph could see better than her skunk. <<Hey! Some animals actually do have decent eyesight. My skunk morph can't see worth a darn.>> The instincts were there, and she almost wanted to play with letting them kick in so she could fly. She waited for the others to morph first though. This was a mission, and she was going to keep a serious mind about it..... or try to anyways.

Ray flinched as they started to morph, but soon got out of it. “Okay…” He saw the bird still in the trance, and quickly went to grab it. Only putting his hand on it lightly enough to accire some DNA, he took in a deep breath and waited for the feeling to enter his fingers. When a small amount of “Electricity” entered his system, he looked at the bird and grinned. “Great, a bird morph.” Taking in a great breath, he took off his baggy clothing, his morphing suite being shown. Ray concentrated, trying to morph again.
Ray’s face turned first, slowly sprouting a beak. It didn’t feel bad; he had never minded transforming. It was just the sounds that made him sick. His hair started to become feather, his eyes started to shrink. Only then did his whole body start to go down. His wings went out last, and he looked quite ridicules before with hands on a bird.
<<Alright then. This is a nice morph, I’ll admit…Nice to meet you Leo.>>

<<Well lets get this show on the road! I'm hoping that this won't become an overnight trip.>> Rox flapped her wings and launched herself forward. Right away she could tell that flying as a pelican would be way different than flying as a dove. First of all, she was much larger, and therefore felt clumsier in the air. And her long neck was bent backward in a position that would have been impossible had she still been human.
<<Alright, this is weird. And kinda cool.>> Her wings caught an ocean breeze and she was lifted gently upward. She passed through a small flock of seagulls and they all moved out of her way. <<That's right,>> she said to the seagulls. <<I'm the boss.>>

Johnny laughed and bit back a comment on Ray being late. He shuffled back and forth and bobbed his head. He waited as Ray, Leopold, and Hope morphed. In the meantime, he began exploring the bird. He stretched one wing out and then another, amazed as each one seemed to keep going and going and going. The same with his mouth. This was going to be an interesting day.
Rox announced that they leave and Johnny's thoughts mirrored Rox's, to an extent. He wanted to get going, but because he couldn't wait to fly. It was the second best thing about morphing right after being able to spy on anyone. <<Aye aye, Captain,>> he said sarcastically. Then Rox announced her postition. <<Hold on! Waitaminute! I didn't mean it! No way Rox!>> He didn't say it hotly, he said it in extreme ernest.
He jumped off the sand and began flapping with hard downstrokes, eager to catch up to Rox. The strength in his wings surprised him. The eagle was strong, yes, but it didn't compare much with the pelican's. It was similar to morphing the gorilla, yet not as drastic. About seventy feet off the ground and after he'd caught a thermal, he stopped falpping.
Then he began falling. <<Aaahh!>> He began flapping frantically and was surprised when his rapid descent began slowing. What's wrong with me? Or did we acquire a retarded pelican?

((OOC: Didn’t have much to post, and that’s why this post is crummy. Any idea on what the pelican’s like, and what’s going on with Johnny?))
<Nice to meet you too, Ray,> Leopold replied. None of them had looked very good during the transformation, but now they were all the same stork. He followed Rox’s lead, climbing the ocean breeze. He chuckled to himself when Rox told the seagulls she was the boss.
Then he heard Johnny’s cry of distress. <What’s going on, Johnny?> he asked. What if he was truly in trouble? The thought-speech and his sense of direction were the only things Leopold kept about him; otherwise, he had given in to the bird. It knew what to do, he was sure.

Ray grinned as he watched the others take off, going after Leo. He had never actually flown in a bird morph, nor had he actually been in a morph like that one. The pelican was just…Free. The bird was free. He had never felt so good in his life. No amount of goods that he could have gotten his hands on would have amounted to what he had been feeling. He looked around, finally falling on Johnny.
<<Whats wrong, man? What happened?>> He had never actually learned much about pelicans. His father had been to far away from the shoreline to have taken in any animal as exotic as this one seemed to be. He couldn’t think of anything that might cause him to have gone down. Ray stared, contemplating what might have gone wrong. He could think of nothing…

((OOC: I hope nobody minds the time-skip. I just wanted to keep this thread rolling is all.))
Rox laughed a little when Johnny started to fall. It was funny. Maybe it wouldn't have been funny if he had crashed, but he was still flying so she didn't feel bad abut it. Besides, it was Johnny. Her mortal enemy.
<<Nothing is wrong, you two,>> Rox said to Leo and Ray. <<It isn't the pelican that we acquired that is the problem. It's the driver.>> Then to Johnny she said, <<Don't crash and burn already, Johnny. We still have a long way to go.>>
And with that Rox pumped her wings harder and followed the coastline in the direction of their destination. It only took a few hours to reach the city since they didn't have to worry about traffic. But they did have to worry about demorphing and remorphing every hour and 45 minutes or so. But they still made decent time.
When they finally were at the zoo, Rox flew overhead and scoped it out. Not everyone in their group had decided to make the entire trip, but most of them had. And now Rox asked them, <<So, do we demorph right in the animals' exhibits or what? I suppose it would depend on the animal. Anyone have one picked out?>> The place seemed to have any kind of animal anyone could ever possibly want to acquire.

((Not at all.))
<<Very funny Rox,>> Johnny said to both her comments. It's not the pelican, it's the driver! And don't crash and burn! That would look terrible on my resumee to get a job! Sheesh! Rox really does care. Johnny kept thinking such thoughts as he resumed his earlier height. Then he stretched his wings out to soar... and began falling, but not quite as bad.
This time he did not yell. Instead, he began flapping and his fall quickly stopped. Johnny figured it out. Oh duh! Pelicans don't fly like eagles! Brilliant! Johnny turned the flying over to the pelican then. He'd sit this ride, er, flight out and sit back to take notes. His flight greatly improved when he realized that the pelican could soar, but it flapped way more than the eagle would dream of.
They eventually made it to the zoo in relative safety. Rox kinda regrouped them and Johnny said, <<Yeah, let's all go down there and land in the lion exhibit. And then while while a hundred people watch, we can play tag with the lions always "it" and--ooh! Catch ya later guys! I've already got something picked out.>>
Johnny wheeled around and began flying down behind a bathroom by the creature. The others could have their fun, but he wanted to get close to the creature, the pretty one with long blonde hair and a red striped shirt.

Ray watched as Johnny quickly regained himself, and he suddenly wondered if instead the boy had been faking it. He decided it was unfair to judge, so he kept on flapping behind Rox. The girl comment would have made him laugh, had he, of course, been able to laugh. She seemed to care a lot for Johnny….Not.
He flapped alongside of Rox and nodded when she spoke. <<I guess it doesn’t really matter, but we should get a sensible fighting animal…I have my Wolf-Dog form, but it wouldn’t be the best if we, you know, went up against something…Well, huge…I don’t know about the rest of you guys, of course, so you can all chose. That was just a suggestion.” Ray just wished he could get a larger, bigger morph truthfully. The mix breed morph was great, but the fact was, it didn’t give him the advantages that other animals had. The breed had agility and sharp claws and fangs, but it wasn’t the ideal animal…

He couldn’t help but laugh, but it was at the relief that Johnny was alright. But he kept his laughter to himself, and set his sights to flying. <<You’ve got to let the bird fly,>> he advised him. <<It knows what it’s doing.>> Either he didn’t really need his advice, or he heeded it; Johnny began to improve.
Eventually, they made it into the zoo, Rox taking charge of things. Johnny did have a point. It seemed Leopold and Ray were in the same dilemma; they didn’t know what they wanted. He had, so far, a pelican, a hawk, and a cockroach. Nothing much to fight with. He wanted to be more original than a lion or an elephant, though; hadn't the original Animorphs used those? He wasn't sure.
<<There’s a lot of animals here...but I don’t know which one I’d like to acquire,>> he said. <<Any suggestions?>> He looked out over the expanse of the zoo.
((OOC: Yeah, I could use suggestions...and it'd be fun doing it IC. Since Ray has the same dilemma too)).

((OOC: I started a morph list here so you guys can look at it for some ideas. Feel free to add to it, too. ) Rox waited and acted as a lookout as Johnny began to demorph behind a bathroom. It didn't look like the safest place to demorph, but it wasn't as if there were really any of those at the zoo anyway. But Rox was having a hard time figuring out what Johnny had 'picked out' to acquire. She doubted it was the capybara in the nearby exhibit, or the otters in a pool across the path. The only semi-battle worthy animal that was close to the bathroom was a yak, but Rox couldn't see how Johnny would even be able to get into their enclosure, let alone get close to one without being seen. <<Johnny, what exactly is your plan here?>> Rox asked, confused. <<What do you plan to acquire?>> Rox landed on top of the bathroom's sun-baked roof as she waited for some type of response. Rox hadn't decided what she was going to acquire yet, but there wasn't really a rush for her to figure it out either. Leo and Ray seemed to be trying to figure out the same thing. The only advice Rox could give them was, <<Just make sure that whatever you decide to acquire, doesn't acquire your life first. We don't want any of your bodies to show up on the news tonight.>>

Hope kept flying once they reached the zoo. She herself had almost hit the burnout point like Johnny, but had made it here. She was now surveying the scene as she tried to scope out a morph for herself. She wanted something original, something no other animorph had thought of. Rox started asking, but it sounded like only Johnny had an idea and Hope couldn't see what it was. Suddenly she spotted them, her battle morph. They were in an enclosure with a rocky, sloped surface meant to imitate a mountain in on spot. The rest was open with rocks in a few more spots not nearly as high. The thing she loved about them were the enormous horns. Although that meant getting one of the males, and that was going to be interesting. <<I found my morph.>> She called out. She dropped down behind a porta-john, situating herself between it and the fake mountain. She demorphed and walked around the pen. A sign on the fence proclaimed "Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep". So that's what these guys are. Nice. When she returned to her starting point she glanced for people watching before she climbed into the pen. Now it was just a matter of getting near one of the males, and the sound behind her made her assume she didn't have far to go. ((Hope is getting a bighorn sheep. Long planned for with help from Leroy. As a note, male bighorn right behind her. Hope has problem now.))

Ray thought for what seemed like forever. He couldn’t realize what he wanted, because obviously, everything was so…Easy to get. They were at such a large supply, he couldn’t figure out how he would manege to pick one out. He scanned the zoo lines, thinking about some of the different morphs. When he finally hit an exibit that he found apeling, Ray thought he found his match. The Alligator.
He didn’t know much about the creature, except for what he had learned from school. What he did remember was that the Alligator’s strength was beyond anything he could have imagined before that. A master of water and land, a living fossil of the ages. The Alligator was the perfect choice for what Ray wanted. <<I figured mine out…Alligator…The only problem, how do I mange to aquire it? It isn’t like I can just swoop in…They’ll crush me. Then again, maybe I can…” He said, remembering also that more than likely these animals were bored and resting. Ray swooped lower to get a better look and grinned. They were sleeping. Sunbathing.
Ray went down into a pit, making as little noise as possible. Demorphing, he tried his best to hide. He hoped to God that no one was watching that exibit. Creeping up, hearing a few splashs, he knelt down and closed his eyes. Touching one, he wished he could keep the trance there for all of them. Oh, how he wished he could control the others. His heart pounded loudly, and for a second he was sure that he would wake them up. The alligator did nothing of the sort.
Going into a hiding place, Ray morphed into his bug morph, not looking around. He had found a small cave like area, been able to transform there. He didn’t see any alligators, and he hoped they wouldn’t see him. Gulping, he allowed himself to morph, afraid the whole time.
(Sorry guys, I thought this was the perfect morph but I could only think of that way to get it. If you want me to change it, I will.))

Rox didn't have time to hear Johnny's answer since Hope seemed to be going for her morph at the moment. Rox figured Johnny would be more capable of handling himself (physically) against a wild animal that Hope, so she flew off to find her to make sure she didn't get into trouble. And that is exactly where Hope was when Rox found her. In trouble.
Rox was going to try and swoop down and startle the bird or something, but just then she heard Ray mention he was going to acquire an alligator. An alligator! That seemed way more pressing. <<Sorry, you're on your own there, Hope.>> Rox turned in the air to go find out where the alligators were.
As Rox flew through the sky, she didn't see any ambulances, or hear any screams, so that was a good sign. But by the time she actually located the alligator exhibit, Ray was already morphing a bug. <<You're crazy, you know that, right?>> she said to him privately.
By this time Rox was so worn out from flying all over the place that she decided everyone else could just fend for themselves. They already were anyway, as far as she was concerned. Although she didn't see what happened with Hope and the goat or whatever it was...
Rox just shrugged it off and landed on the roof of one of the zoo buildings. She demorphed in the shade on an air-conditioning unit, then tried to figure out how to get down. It wasn't so easy without wings...
