Ray took in a deep breath before closing his eyes. The situation had not changed. Not in the slightest. If anything, it had gotten worse. Yeah, he had escaped from the angered stares and the brutal hits. But he hadn’t escaped from the dark feeling inside his chest. He had everything he needed and wanted there. Except one crucial thing. He didn’t have one friend…
He was used to that, of course. It was a simple thing he had learned to live with before. Yet, when he had moved and “Died”, he had expected some measurement of love from somebody…As far as he knew, no one had shed a tear for his death…And no one would care if he truly died…It was a solders exsitance. False honor to defend his country.
“They probably didn’t even hold one….Miserable Ray never would have amounted to the cash it would take to put my soul to rest…Even if it was true…” He was just talking to himself, and he didn’t care what the other people might have thought. He didn’t care what they’d think when he stood on the balcony and stared down. He wasn’t suicidal…Just lonely. Afraid of what was to come.

Hope saw Ray standing in the balcony talking to.... well, it appeared to be himself. Ray was a newer member of the group, and Hope didn't know him that well. She wasn't sure if she wanted to or not. He seemed.... hard to figure out. Not that Hope had ever been that great at reading people.
Deciding to take a chance she stepped out onto the balcony herself, but that's where she lost her confidence. Instead of saying something to him like she'd planned on, she just found herself staring out into the city below. She knew she needed to trust him to some extent since they were part of a team, and yet a team mentality didn't come easily to Hope. She struggled some to remember that others relied on her now and she couldn't just be on her own as she always had. Being an Animorph was.... well, it was becoming a life lesson of sorts. That wasn't necessarily what she'd signed up for, but that didn't mean it was bad.

Ray sighed as he stopped, taking in a deep breath. He knew better than to try and turn around. He didn’t trust himself enough, even when he felt eyes on him. He knew better than anyone that he would most likely frighten the person away. So instead, he kept staring down and waited for them to go away or approach. Personally, he could care less whichever it was. It kind of had a good feeling, if someone came up. A kind of endorphin that no other person could supply.
Or adrenalin, he supposed. Either way, a supply of one of the two came rushing in. He felt a bit of joy at it, and for a second didn’t trust himself to speak. As the girl approached, he made a mental note not to say anything for a few minutes. So he waited, staring down. Deciding after a while that it would be best to stat a conversation, he looked up. “Hello…” He whispered softly, he monotone voice calm as it had always been. Try not to show emotions, he reminded himself. It’ll be for the better.

Hope hadn't really known why she'd stayed on the balcony after coming out here, except that it would seem odd to just turn around immediately after coming out. It couldn't have been blamed on wanting to be alone, because she wouldn't have come out here in the first place then. It would have been obvious the balcony was occupied. Still, staying had it's results, this time being that Ray spoke first and started the conversation Hope had been intending to originally.
"Hi..." she said. Then, before she really could think about it, she added, "It's all really weird, the kind of groups this SPECTER organization is throwing together. From what I've heard they almost always seem to know our names. From what I asked the others, they know who we are and, probably, they know why they chose us." A moment after she finished she seemed to realize she'd been kind of babbling and said, "Sorry.... It's just, most of the people here were transferred from other cities. We're some of the few actually recruited expressly for this city, so I'm still trying to figure this whole thing out some."

He felt awkward just speaking to her. It wasn’t in his blood to speak to others, just animals. So silently he nodded with each passing word, taking each into consideration. He didn’t mind her babbling on; the mere fact that she cared enough to talk was something that he was starting to respect her for. He didn’t really like to talk anyways. Only when it was necessary.
“Yeah, I guess…They knew my name top, everything about me…They knew my history, all that. Maybe we just got picked to go here because…” He closed his eyes for a moment, trying to concentrate. His mind was like a time bomb. If he didn’t think fast enough, he’d explode. Forget everything. Shaking his head, he tried to analyze any data he could figure out. “Maybe we just have different skills that other cities have to match? Maybe they didn’t want doubles? You know, two heads might be better than one until they bonk eachother...Then their worthless.” He grinned slightly.

"You might not be far off with the skills," Hope said. "That I've heard of no other city has a rogue Animorph to deal with. It might be skills we have that will be needed to fight her. Or SPECTER thinks they'd help anyways." She shook her head as she thought about it.
"They knew a lot about me too, including my history in martial arts. They caught me after a tae-kwan-do class I was helping teach. I thought the agent was insane at first, but she knew way too much." Now seemed like a good time to back up and do the introductions that had been forgotten. "I'm Hope. I don't remember if we all introduced ourselves, but even if we did it's a lot of names to remember."

Ray shrugged. “You never know, friend. Around here, you never know.” His gruff voice cracked a bit as he looked down, feeling a bit of rage at himself. He closed his eyes, but opened them just a bit.
“You were in martal arts? That’s cool. I used to want to learn real bad, but my family couldn’t afford it, you know? Anyways, it does sound cool. You think you can teach me some moves after a while or something? Was always interested in learning.
