"No, they really don't like andalites," he replied. Or people who involve themselves with andalites. People who try to branch out and learn about their allies rather than trying to hide in this hole of a planet. "And I have no idea where they are."
What kind of a question was that, anyway? If he said aliens, yes, that included andalites. Andalites weren't exactly native to Earth. That was one of the qualifications for being an alien. Was she dense or something?
He closed his eyes and breathed deep. He could tell she knew he wasn't telling her everything. He needed to get his emotions under control.

Xylia continues to watch him before nodding and starting to work on the salad, "Sounds like we still got a lot of ground to cover then huh Bossman?" she asks him.
Inside she was leaping for joy. It sounded like there was a serious chance of her meeting an andalite! How cool was that? Maybe even acquire one's dna and find out what having that sharp tail was like? Amazing!
On the outside the girl was pretty subdued as she finished cutting everything up. She didn't know these people that well yet. She wasn't going to show off her dorky side to a bunch of strangers.
"Well, as long as we aren't fighting for something like the yeerks. You can count me in. I might be the dumb newbie, but I do got street smarts and I can fight." She says looking at both boys with a smile.

Leroy smiled back at Xylia. He could already tell that he would enjoy having her around for reasons besides just her ability to cook. She seemed really into this animorphs business, which was always a plus.
"Heh, I sure hope we don't have to fight the yeerks, but you never know..." Leroy shook the thought from his head. Ever since the end of the invasion there had been people claiming to know about yeerk groups that were still around. They were usually hoaxes or overly paranoid people. Still, the possibility of one of the reports actually being true sent shivers up his spine.
"Well anyway, if there are yeerks out there, who better to control than people who already hate andalites, right?" Leroy forced a laugh to escape his lips, then went to the cupboard to get a glass of water.

You expect me to believe you have street smarts? You're hiding them really well. And who died and made me boss? he thought to himself. He was careful not to let any of this show on his face, though. "They don't just hate andalites," Jeremy said. "They hate any alien showing its face on Earth. So yeerks are a big 'no' for them as well."
She seemed to be excited though. And Jeremy couldn't deny, not for lack of effort, that enthusiasm could increase effectiveness. And who knew? Maybe she was secretly street smart, buried under several layers of what appeared to be Twilight fangirl, where Edward was an andalite.
