Wes climbed the stairs to his apartment carrying his new cat, Richard, into his new place of residence. His adjustment to being an Animorph was not all that hard. Besides having to deal with the fact that he was technically dead and could now turn into animals, Wes was pretty much in the same place he was before. The hobby farm where he worked gave him the same basic job that he had in Arizona except there was no chance of him running into wild dogs.
His trip to the animal shelter to get a dog had turned into getting a cat and acquiring a dog's DNA. It was not his original intention, but it still worked out for him in the end. He sat down on a chair while Richard climbed up on his shoulders. "What do you think of this place? Do you think it feels like home?" The cat just jumped into his lap and started making himself comfortable. "That sounds like a yes to me." Wes wondered what exactly he was supposed to be doing right now. Should he practice morphing or be making contact with the leader of this group?

Jeremy was climbing the stairs, nursing a cut he'd gotten from a hawk. Apparently, they didn't like having their broken wings splinted. More importantly, apparently Jeremy wasn't quick enough. It had been washed and bandaged and then he'd gone on working. Sadly, he hadn't been let off for the rest of the day, since less than half of their employees had shown up. He never really found out why.
He heard a meow and glanced up. There was a... rustic (for lack of a better word) looking guy on the stairs with a cat in his arms. Jeremy wanted to ask him if he always talked to his cats, but decided not to antagonize someone he didn't even know. He instead sped up so he could pass him and get to the apartment.

Wes probably looked a little crazy talking to a cat, but there had been no one else around for him to ask any questions. He looked up to see someone climbing up the stairs to the apartments. The guy looked like he had been attacked by a bird or something, so Wes thought they he shouldn't stop him but he really did need to ask someone.
"Hi. My name is Wes. Are you leader of this group or someone of high rank that I can check in with?" Wes was not really sure if there were ranks in this whole operation, but it was what he was going to assume. Richard seemed to ignore the new person in the vicinity and continued to sleep in Wes's arms.

Jeremy froze. Any number of possibilities, most of them negative, popped into his head. Maybe he really was a new Animorph, and just didn't realize that the apartment building wasn't all Animorphs. It was also possible, however, that this was someone from Erde Premier trying to squeeze into their group. Jeremy had no way of knowing. So he chose the safer path.
"What?" he said, with a bewildered, slightly annoyed, look on his face. "You mean you're getting an apartment here? The landlord's downstairs." He then kept climbing, trying to think of some way to contact SPECTER to ask if there was supposed to be a new recruit. Not that he expected a straight answer from them. Though if this guy was a new recruit, he had a LOT to learn.

Yes, Wes was not really good at the whole keep things quiet front. He would eventually get it down with some help. When the guy said something about the landlord, Wes remembered that he was supposed to be uncover about the whole thing. "Right, maybe we should continue this conversation inside."
Wes opened the door to the apartments and walked inside carrying his cat. He expected that the other guy follow in him. "Sorry about not playing coy back there. I am still new to this whole secret organization thing. So who are you exactly?"

OK, he was going to be persistent. Maybe he had been informed as to who was in the organization. He was certainly informed as to which apartment they lived in, as he offered to continue the conversation inside. Jeremy followed him in. Maybe it was just dumb luck, and he was a clueless recruit. Either way, there was no point in feigning ignorance anymore. He would just have to question him and make sure, and possibly contact SPECTER to confirm his story.
"Make sure you remember, not everyone in the building is an Animorph. Just the people in this apartment," Jeremy said. "My name is Jeremy. Who are you? How were you contacted?" Jeremy made sure to avoid mentioning SPECTER. Maybe the guy would slip up and reveal that he didn't know who they were. That would be a quick indicator.

Wes could have sworn that he had introduced himself already, but maybe he hadn't. "My name is Wes Jackson. I was recruited in Arizona near the ranch that I worked at. Two guys in suits came up from an organization called SPECTER. They said that they wanted me to join this group in order to help keep the peace." That was the simplest way of saying what he had been through.
"So what exactly do we do here? Does one of you give out assignments or is it search for yourself?" Wes was in the need to do something. Richard jumped from Wes's arms and started exploring the new area. "There isn't anything that will eat him in, is there?"

Jeremy managed to not groan at the prospect of another animal in the apartment. Also he just didn't like cats. Wes had mentioned SPECTER though, so at least Jeremy was more certain that Wes was supposed to know who they were. Keep the peace, though? What peace was there to keep?
"No, I don't think anything will eat him," Jeremy said. I won't lose any sleep if something does, he thought to himself. "We get our assignments from SPECTER," he said out loud. "But sometimes we find things on our own. Welcome."

When Jeremy said nothing would eat Richard, Wes let out a sigh of relief. He didn't know if people in this group were more prone to keeping pets or not, so it was always good to double check. "So how many people live in this apartment that are Animorphs?" Wes was curious as to how large this group was. He was also interested in who was in charge, but figured that person would make it known later on when a mission was brought up.
Wes wondered where Richard had run off too, but he didn't have to wonder long as the cat seemed to have gotten bored and returned. He wondered if everyone was as cheerful as Jeremy seemed to be.

Jeremy felt slight trepidation with answering the question about how many Animorphs there were, but he was getting less and less suspicious by the minute. Either this guy was who he said he was, or he was putting up a very good act. "Everyone who lives here is an Animorph," he replied. "Can't give too certain of a number, since some people disappear for weeks at a time. I'm honestly not even sure I've met everyone."
Jeremy was a little confused by the fact that no one else seemed to be in the apartment at the moment, though. Usually Leroy and at least one or two others were around. Why weren't any of them noticing that there was a new voice?

Wes was unsure on how to feel about the fact that members would disappear for periods of time. He wondered if they were doing something they weren't supposed to or off on some mission. It was also a little weird that other team members did not know who was on the team and where they were going. "That would explain why no one seems to be attracted to the presence of someone new. I figured that there would be more people here to explain stuff."
It seemed that this group was not as organized as Wes thought it was going to be. He figured at least the group leader would be here to give him some sort of orientation speech.

((ok ok my heart bleeds for you lol I'll join)) Emily headed down the hall, lost in thought, a bag of groceries in each hand with Shadow carrying her purse. Good thing it was small and light. What a week it had been, her apartment had finally reached it's potential and looked more her. No more white! White had never been her color. She stopped as Shadow let out a low growl, and she noticed the two young men standing there.
She tilted her head slightly and set the groceries in front of the door so her hands were free to meet them. Shadow set the purse down next to the groceries, standing so he could keep an eye on the purse, and on the young men. Who were these people? And were they dangerous?

Wes had not been paying that much attention to his surroundings, so he didn't notice the girl walk in until Richard had climbed up a chair and jumped up on his shoulder. The cat hissed at something next to them, so Wes turned to see the reason why. The first thing he noticed was the black lab standing next to a purse. He didn't notice the girl until he noticed the groceries next to the purse.
He did not know if she was one of them or someone else who lived in the apartments. Wes did not want to seem rude to Jeremy, who he was having a conversation with but he also did not want to be rude to the new girl. "Hello there. My name is Wes. What is your name?" He gave Jeremy a look as if to say friend or foe.

"Emily Orion. Nice to meet you Wes. I'll be out in a second to talk, but I must get the food in the fridge. Or if you want to come in I could offer you a drink and some cookies." She flashed Wes a smile and reached into her pocket, pulling out a key and unlocking her apartment, tucking the key away again before picking up the bags. Shadow picked up her purse again and used his nose to push open the door.
Putting the groceries away, Emily returned to the doorway and leaned against it, Shadow set her purse down in the closet and quickly joined her, sitting at her feet and eyeing up the two strangers warily and with an automatic scowl on his face. Friendly he wasn't, until he got to know a person. Guilty until proven innocent.
