Kita unlocked the door to her apartment and opened it, her eyes widening as she stepped inside. Boot room, all white. But, she had to give it credit for the space available for footwear and the closet space for coats. Terrible coloring. All white. Haven't they heard of mud?
She continued in with a suitcase in each hand, entering the living room. More white, walls and furniture. Haven't they heard of animals? She glanced over at the kitchen which was just off the living room, more white. No color? Where did these people come from?
Shaking her head, she spotted a room in the corner of the kitchen and opened the door. The laundry room. Interesting. She left the kitchen and crossed the living room. Two more rooms on the other side. She glanced in the one room. Empty but a decent size. Office material, smooth floor, not carpet. Looking in the other room, the same size but carpeted.
Ok she could understand people having different tastes... she would have to stop the men before they brought her stuff up. Where would she find a painter for the place? That would have to go first, that way, if anything fell, the carpet and tile is being replaced anyways.

Bruno was busy upstairs in his room lifting weights. All he had were a couple of dumbbells, so he was pretty limited on what exercises he could do without going to a gym, but he still liked to keep his arms busy by doing arm curls. Just because he could turn into animals now was no reason to let his muscles waste away.
As he set the weights down after finishing his reps, Bruno noticed that he could hear someone moving around downstairs. "Nancy must be home," he said to himself, then stood up and headed downstairs to go see what she was up to.
When he reached the bottom of the steps he got a surprise. "You... aren't Nancy. Are you moving in?" Bruno knew the answer was obvious, but he had never excelled at the art of conversation.

Kita froze at the sound of the voice and she turned slowly. She knew how to fight, but even so she felt a trace of fear. She saw the man and her chin came up in a defiant stance. "No I'm not Nancy, whoever she is. And yes I'm new here. Hasn't anyone taught you manners? Like knocking and names?" she demanded, both angry at him for scaring her, and herself for being scared.
She sized up the man and frowned. Muscle bound, probibly barbaric, and obviously not sure of himself. She had to wonder how long he'd been there. She stood with her hands at her sides, but every muscle was tensed to fight if necessary.

Bruno furrowed his brow as he tried to understand this new girl. He liked that she wasn't intimidated by his presence, but at the same time he was a bit disappointed. Being intimidating was one of the few traits he enjoyed having as a result of being as large and muscular as he was. But whatever the case may be, Bruno decided not to point out that this girl hadn't knocked, or mentioned her name yet. Two things she just yelled at him for not doing.
"My name is Bruno." He glanced down at her with a sideways look in his eye and without a smile on his face. He was still trying to figure her out. "I didn't knock because I was already in the house. What's your excuse?" Okay, so maybe he was bringing up her lack of knocks after all.
Bruno was pretty sure that he would either like this girl, or hate her. But he still wasn't sure which.

"Uh... I live here," she said in annoyance. As if it wasn't bad enough that this apartment she had been given wasn't bland enough, it came with a brute. One that, if he was telling the truth, also lived there too. She had to talk to those folks in suits. She could afford her own house if THIS was what she had to put up with in their safe houses.
She inclined her head, meeting his gaze steadily and her expression defiant. How dare he accuse her of breaking in! Which was pretty much what he had done. Those stupid men in suits needed to put out an order for pest control. Uh oh. This wasn't good. The more she was thinking, the angrier she got, and her eyes tended to show it.

Bruno could tell that the lady was getting angry and, strangely enough, knowing that actually made Bruno happier. For some reason he was getting a kick out of getting this lady all riled up. Especially over what he considered to be nothing particularly anger-worthy.
"Well I live here too. So you better get used to it." Bruno didn't really know what SPECTER was thinking when they hired this lady, but hopefully she wasn't going to be like this all the time. "So... are you going to tell me your name, or are you going to make me try to guess it?" Then, almost as an afterthought he asked, "And do you have any luggage that you want me to help carry in?" It was the polite thing to ask, even though he wasn't sure he actually wanted to help this girl out.

Kita muffled a groan at the idea of living with him, then allowed her manners to take over. "Kita," she held out her hand politely, "and no thankyou. I've taken a look over my apartment, and there are a few changes i want to make before I get too comfortable. But thankyou anyways."
She smiled sweetly and glanced out the door at the moving truck. The way it sounded she was going to be here a while. She was beginning to question whether or not she should move to her own place. Her expression suddenly turned vulnerable as thoughts raced through her mind. She was suddenly very scared, even though she had nothing to lose. But not of Bruno. For some reason she actually missed home.

At least this lady, Kita, had some manners. Perhaps Bruno would be able to find a way to get along with her after all. Or at the very least they should be able to figure out a way to tolerate each other's company. Bruno accepted her offer of a handshake, then began to wonder exactly what she meant by "changes."
But the thought didn't last long as a new expression crossed Kita's face. Bruno furrowed his brow, "Is everything all right? Did you forget something from... wherever you are from?" Then in order to make his inquiry official, he asked, "Where are you from?"

Kita bowed her head for a moment in silence, and looked up at Bruno. "A place... a prison... solitary confinement." She smiled weakly, trying to fight back the tears that threatened to fall. "A house that wasn't a home. How about you?" she asked, trying to change the subject. He didn't need to know her past. She already knew how money affected people. Though the servants had stopped caring about the money and took them on as one of their own. Out of sympathy, she supposed, because her own family didn't care about her.
She had learned a lot from all of them, they were willing to teach her everything they knew. Which covered a lot of ground since there was someone for everything. Those who worked in the kitchen, those who worked in laundry, those who cared for the house, those who worked the yard, those who tended the stables, the horses, created toys out of wood for her. She brushed at her eyes.

Bruno was a bit surprised that the conversation had switched over to him so suddenly. "What, me? Oh, I'm from way over on the west coast. Seattle. I haven't been here for too long either."
"So, um..." Bruno was at a loss for words. Where was the conversation supposed to go from here?
"Oh, yeah. I suppose I should ask if you need any help, you know, morphing. The first time is pretty weird. Actually, every time is pretty weird..." Bruno had only morphed a few times since becoming an animorph, and waited way too long before trying it out for the first time. He didn't want Kita to make the same "mistake" if he could help it.
"Have you acquired anything yet?"

"Does a squirrel count?" Kita joked, since it was one of the few animals she had come in contact with. She wasn't 100% positive what he meant by "acquired" or how it felt when you acquired it. After all, she had pet a lot of animals. But since she got here only a squirrel had been friendly enough to come and visit. Granted she had a bowl of peanuts on the table. Why he had been so friendly was beyond her. Especially for a wild squirrel. Granted, animals had always seemed to be drawn to her.
Kita blushed slightly, embarassed at her ignorance. What was she supposed to do? Admit it.
"How do you know if you acquired?"

"Yes, a squirrel counts." Bruno didn't know how she would have come into contact with a squirrel, but it was certainly more believable than his own peacock or flamingo morphs. But apparently she wasn't confident that she had actually acquired it.
"I guess the first clue as to wether or not you acquired it would be: When you touched it, did you try to acquire it? Did you concentrate on absorbing the squirrel's DNA?" Bruno felt like he was giving a science lecture, except he didn't know very much about science. Morphing science or otherwise.
"Another hint would be wether or not the squirrel went into a trance. Animals get all calm and peaceful when you acquire them. At least for a little bit."
"So, do you think you managed to acquire it? I suppose the quickest way to find out for sure would be to try and morph it... But if not, I suppose we could go dig up a worm or something in the back yard for you to acquire. Or maybe take a trip to a pet store." Bruno was just throwing options into the air as the ideas came to him.

Kita speculated on that thought, and as she did, suddenly her clothes were gone and things looked really weird. For one thing everything was bigger, for another... well her vision wasn't quite the same. And she had a strong craving for nuts. Her nose wiggled slightly as she sniffed the air. Then she saw her clothes.
She blushed bright red and crossed her arms and legs with embarassment, only to find she was covered with hair. <what am I?!> the thought message was filled with fear and confusion. Torn between the natural instincts of the squirral and her own bewilderment, she checked out her new form as though it were an alien. <This can't really be me>

Bruno was a bit surprised when Kita started morphing. He wasn't expecting her to just go at it like that. Especially without a morphing suit on. He had to look away in embarrassment when her clothes started to fall off. But then he realized she may not even know about morphing suits yet.
"It's really you," Bruno reassured her. "At least for up to two hours. Don't stay in any morph for more than two hours or else you will be stuck in that morph forever. That's the number one rule of morphing. The number two rule is to wear a morphing suit so that when you morph you and your partners don't die of embarrassment." Bruno let out a little laugh after his second rule.
"So, since you are already a squirrel, what is it like? Do you feel like eating acorns? Are you afraid a dog will chase you up a tree?"

Distracted by the comment of her "partners" dying of embarassment, she glared at him indignantly. <I may not be a model but I'm not that ugly, dressed or otherwise> she snapped, crossing her arms... or were they legs? Either way it didn't matter. They were where her arms were supposed to be, and that was that.
Then she contemplated the question. Urges? She crinkled her nose. The searching for nuts, definitely. Fear of dogs? Not really, but she definitely wanted to climb a tree. She looked back up at Bruno with somewhat a mischievious gleam in her eyes. With a running leap, she scrambled up Bruno until she was perched on his head. Hanging on with all four paws, she looked at him upside down. <Hey! I found a nut and a tree in my very own home!!!>
