Caracal, Black Capped Chickadee, flamingo, 53 posts ~ Leroy's Note
Name: Maya Neufeld
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Appearance: Long blonde hair. Clear blue eyes. She has a friendly, innocent look to her, but something in her eyes seems that she’s seen more than just the friendly side of life. Dresses conservatively and comfortably.
Personality: Maya is a generally loyal, warm, and friendly person. She would love nothing more than to curl up with a good book and a cup of coffee. She’s a bit reserved, though this doesn’t mean she’s shy. She prefers to sit back and listen and learn, but will speak up if need be. She doesn’t speak much about her past, though, rather looking optimistically towards the future.
Biography:
Maya came from a regular family. A mother, a father, an older brother. A close family. Great friends. Good grades.
A high school sweetheart.
It was four years ago.
Four years ago, they’d freshly graduated. Had plans, a future, a life together. Four years ago when Jason had told her he was enlisting. Four years when they’d fought about it, when he reassured her that it was to secure their future together, that it would be okay. Four years when war broke out, when the Yeerk invasion was made known, when the army was called into action.
Four years ago since she got the phone call. Dracon beam.
Four years since Maya realized she was capable of a hate she’d never known before.
The Yeerks would pay.
How they were recruited:
Maya couldn’t help but yawn. Normally she didn’t mind learning, but this professor was possibly the most boring teacher she’d ever had in her life. She glanced at her watch. Five more minutes until the class was over. Then she could go get something to eat.
Her stomach rumbled at the very thought of it. She couldn’t help but glance at her watch again. She hated when she did that… it’s not like it made time go any faster. It kinda made it slower, actually…
The bell finally rang and she was up and out of there, professor’s shouted last minute study assignments following her out into the hallway. Yes, I’m free, she thought in silent relief. Time for lunch!
She hurried down the university’s long hallway and blinked when she finally pushed open the doors to the outside. It was a sunny beautiful day today. She grinned and headed down the steps, thinking to herself about her available possibilities for lunch…
“Miss Neufeld?”
She spun on her heels, looking for the person who matched the voice who called her name. Finally, at the end of the walkway, near the street, she spotted him: a man in a suit, standing in front of a black car.
Hesitantly, she approached him.
“Maya Neufeld?” the man asked once more.
“Um, yeah, that’s me…” she nodded, looking at him questioningly and not getting too close.
He flashed some sort of a badge she didn’t recognize. “I work for the government, and I’d like to have a word with you.” He opened the car door. “Would you spare a few moments?”
She looked at the open car door with hesitation. “Um… I don’t feel comfortable—“
“I have been informed you knew a Jason Wilson?” he added.
Her eyes snapped back towards him at the mention of her boyfriend, suddenly feeling a mix of interest, sadness, and anger. Anger? I thought I was past this… “Yes. Why?”
“Good soldier. We found your name in his file.”
“Why were you looking at his file??”
“This has… somewhat to do with the Yeerks. We need your help.”
“I’m in,” she said immediately. She didn’t know what she was getting herself into at that point. That she’d have to leave everything behind. Be declared dead. Move to a different place. But it didn’t matter. A flame inside of her that she thought had died out years ago was only just being ignited again.
Preferred Job: Concession worker at the zoo.
First morph: Caracal. On first shift at her new job, she was taken on a tour of the zoo in order for her to get acquainted with it all in the case that she was asked for directions. They’d had the caracal out of its cage to greet a field trip of students (it being far more safe for them than a lion or tiger). She asked politely if she could give it a pet before they put it away again, and they obliged. She knew that even working at a zoo, this opportunity would not happen often, since she was only a canteen worker and not a zookeeper. It was the zookeepers she would need to make friends with if she ever wanted another shot at some more handy animal morphs… if this one even worked the way they said it would!
