Charles was glad to hear that Bruno was okay, and the fact that he felt the bird's feet land on his back signaled that moving was probably a good choice at the moment. Bruno gave him his literal marching orders, so Charles followed them to the letter by going forward. He only had his own judgment on when he should turn left, so after about a minute of running he turned left. Charles figured that he was probably headed in the right direction as nothing seemed to be knocked over by his movement. Then again, he was never really sure if he hit anything until he heard something from it.
<<So when exactly am I supposed to stop? Even if we are clear of attackers at the moment, that doesn't mean they are getting reinforcements or at least watching where we go.>>
Charles did not think that it would be a good idea to remain in the open for much longer, but he also didn't want the remaining yeerks to catch a glimpse of them as they left the zoo. They needed a plan that did not resort in another fight because even though he was a tank he was pretty useless in the air.
<<Our exit strategy should be to get out of here really stealth-like, but I have nothing beyond that. Got any good ideas?>.

<<I'm trying to steer us to the garage we were in before, so I guess we stop when we get there. We can demorph inside without the birds dive-bombing us or seeing us. At least that's the idea.>> Bruno had no clue if the plan would work, or if they could even get in to the building. But as they got closer, it looked like one of the doors was open. A custodian or a security guard must have taken a cart out or something.
<<The building is up ahead. Try to go into the open garage door. It's the big dark shape. I'll fly ahead so I can close the door when you are inside, and so I can try to think of part two of the plan.>> Bruno launched himself forward, painfully flapping the wing the condor had bitten.

Well the garage made sense, so long as it wasn't a back-up place for an ambush in all of this mess. Charles did not think that they could take on an entire group of animals even if he was a rhino. He figured that Bruno was probably a mess from getting attacked by the birds, since he was the more vulnerable target out of the two of them. It was probably high time that he demorphed and changed into something a little more sturdy.
<<Just try and be careful. We don't need to get that separated if there are more of them in this place.>> Charles looked for the big dark shape that Bruno had mentioned, and when he found it he sped up to make sure that no one saw where he was going. The only problem with this plan was that it involved him destroying a trash can, signs and a bench. It was not going to be a hard trail to follow if someone was just looking for it.

Bruno cringed every time Charles ran into something or knocked something over, but he didn't say anything. It seemed that it wasn't easy to travel discretely as a rhino. And besides, this was not the time for argument.
<<Just try and be careful. We don't need to get that separated if there are more of them in this place,>> Charles said. And he had a good point. If this was an ambush, then they would have a way to take down a hyena at the very least since they knew Bruno had that morph. But they may not have expected a rhinoceros. Still, it didn't seem too likely that their enemies were prepared, seeing as how they attacked as birds instead of waiting for backup.
But that didn't mean they should get careless. Bruno and Charles still didn't know the full extent of their situation. So when Charles finally made it to the garage, Bruno was quick to push the button to close the door, then began demorphing.
He was relieved when all his cuts and scrapes healed over and his natural bulk returned. Bruno spoke as he continued to demorph. <<I think it is time we throw in the towel and get out of here. We don't really know what we are up against. For all we know they could have an army of lions and tigers on their way.>>
<<Any ideas for how to get out unnoticed? I was thinking bugs, but I don't have a bug morph. We would have to find something in here. Of course, if you have a better idea, I'm all ears.>>

Charles began demorphing as Bruno closed the door as they needed to plan out their next move, which could decide their fate so to speak. They were technically on an even playing field with owl knocked out and the condor being handicapped at the moment. If only he had a bird morph as well, then Charles was sure that they could take the other two birds with little effort, but the main problem was that he didn't have one.
<<I think it is time we throw in the towel and get out of here. We don't really know what we are up against. For all we know they could have an army of lions and tigers on their way.>>
The thought sent a chill down his spine, but then he remembered the fact that these guys had been trying to recruit a hyena as muscle. If they had an army of lions and tigers, then they wouldn't risk getting caught for one yeerk in a hyena morph who was practically entertaining kids the majority of the time. <<It seems unlikely or else they would have sent in a few, if not all, of them in when the situation turned into a fight. I think we caught them by surprise, so they panicked.>>
<<My only idea may not be one that you would like, but I think we should consider it anyway.>> He paused for a second as he thought about what he was suggesting to Bruno who had practically been beaten up by these guys just so Charles could switch morphs. <<The owl may be able to recover, but I highly doubt that they are going to be able to pick the condor up without some kind of eagle helping them. I say we capture it and try to get some information out of it, so that we can at least know what they are planning.>>
Charles just didn't want to feel like SPECTER had wasted the morphing power on him if he was just going to fail at doing this anyway. He needed some sort of proof that he was the right person for this type of job, but this decision was not just his so he needed to wait for Bruno to reply.

Charles was correct, Bruno did not like his plan. But as much as he didn't like it, he also knew that Charles had the right idea. When else would they get an opportunity like this.
Now fully human, Bruno sighed. "Alright, but if we are going back out there, I think we'll need disguises or something. I don't want those birds knowing who we are if they see us somewhere else." Bruno glanced around the garage for some ideas. Over on a counter he spotted some cans of paint. "Face paint, maybe?"
Then behind the counter he noticed something else. Some hooks with sets of keys on it. Bruno pointed to the keys. "And what do you say we take one of the park's vehicles too?"

Charles had promised himself that he would never put paint on his face again after he had been told by some friends during kindergarten that it would help him blend into his surroundings. It had turned into a whole fiasco with him getting sent home to be really punished by his dad. He figured sense he was legally dead that the promise was void now, so he popped open a paint can to find that they were all bright colors. "Great. We can look like members of the Blue Man Group."
He began applying two colors to his face, so that it would be even more difficult to figure out who he was, but Charles didn't know if paint was going to be enough to make Bruno hard to remember. The guy was insanely huge, so it was probably best if the remaining birds saw as little of him as possible, which meant that Charles was going to have to do the retrieving of the birds when the got out there.
With a mixture of red and green paint applied to his face, Charles hopped into the passenger side of one of the vehicles. "I think it would be safer if you drive as I am not really reliable behind the wheel of a car."

Bruno applied bright green and neon orange paint to his face as quickly as possible. As soon as he was finished, he wiped the excess off of his hands onto his legs and went to grab a set of keys that looked like they matched the vehicle Charles had climbed into. It was a big white van with the zoo's logo printed on the side. "At least it should have enough leg room," Bruno muttered to himself before hustling over and climbing into the driver's seat.
Bruno knew how to drive, but he had never been one to spend a lot of time behind the wheel. Too cramped. And he had never driven a large van before, so this would be a new experience for him. He put the keys into the ignition, put his foot on the break, turned it on, put it into gear, then pushed the button hanging from the visor that would open the garage door in front of them.
As light slowly began to filter in underneath as the door raised, Bruno looked at the visor again. He flipped it down. Hopefully it would make it that much harder for the birds to see him.
Without a word Bruno let his foot off the break and pushed the gas. The van moved forward, but not fast. Bruno didn't want to go too fast. He was anxious to get this over with, but they didn't really have a good reason to go at breakneck speed.
"So what is the plan?" Bruno asked without taking his eyes off of the road-sidewalk. "We go in, pick them up, then get out of here as quickly as possible?"

Charles watched as Bruno started up the van and began heading out into the zoo with the visor down. This was going to be a little tricky with what they were planning to do. He noticed that Bruno wasn't going as fast as possible, which was good as Charles didn't want the remaining two birds to know what they were going to do. This was all going to about timing it just right, but first they were going to have to get to the wounded two birds.
Bruno had asked him what the plan was while giving a short version of what he thought they were doing. Charles had figured that to be the original plan, but now he was thinking about tweaking it ever so slightly. "If you can, head for the owl first as we are going to do something really insane. Or at least I am."
Charles thought that he should quickly give Bruno the brief overview of what he was planning so that they could get the whole arguing part of how it was not a good idea out of the way. "We are going to pick up the owl first, I am going to acquire and morph him in the back, your going to get the condor, and then we are going to fake me escaping when you put the condor in the back of the van."

"What good would that... Wait a minute. You're not thinking what I think you're think, are you? You are going to pretend to be one of them? Right to their faces?" Bruno wasn't sure if he should feel impressed or horrified. What Charles was planning would either turn out really good, or really bad. Maybe both. Or neither. They wouldn't know unless they tried, but should they try?
"I don't know. I mean, it's pretty risky. What if they find out it is you?" Bruno saw the condor still flailing around up ahead, which meant the owl wouldn't be much further. They would have to come up with an agreement quickly, so Bruno decided to go with it.
"It's your funeral if you mess this up, but good luck. We're here." Bruno stopped the van. "Morph quick when you get in the back. I'll buy you as much time as I can turning this thing around." Bruno figured it would look suspicious if they picked up the unconscious owl, then just sat there for a few minutes.

Charles waited for Bruno to make the connection himself, and when he did Charles found it to be rather funny. He knew that Bruno was thinking about all the things that could go wrong with this type of plan, but this was their best shot at finding these guys and stopping them. The major problem was getting in and getting out without getting caught by these guys. Charles didn't like not knowing that much about these guys, but he was going to get as much information out of the owl as possible before he had to leave.
"Well if I am found out, then I had better get my little owl butt out of there as fast as an owl can, and if I need to I'll find a place where I can go rhino on these fools." Charles just hoped that he got that chance before getting attacked by god only knows what this group of yeerks had. He wished that they were just a small group of nothlits that were trying to accomplish something that was well beyond their power.
Bruno stopped the van, and Charles dashed for the bird so as to save time. As soon as his hands touched feathers, Charles began acquiring the bird while moving towards the back of the van. He opened the door and climbed into the van. "You have exactly one minute to tell me your real name, where you are from, what your group is about, and anything else that is relevant to your operation or else I am going to have barbecued owl when I get home tonight. Blink if you understand what I am saying to you." The bird blinked repetitively, which Charles took as a yes.

Bruno glanced around nervously and watched in the van's mirrors as Charles did what he had to do outside. As soon as his fellow animorph was back in the vehicle, however, Bruno concentrated on turning the van around. They were parked on a walkway, so their turn around room wasn't all that great, which was okay because Bruno was supposed to be stalling for time anyway. Less space for turning around equaled more time spent trying to turn around.
Even though he was focusing on his driving, Bruno still heard Charles asking their prisoner for information. Which meant the owl probably wasn't unconscious anymore. "Great," Bruno muttered sarcastically under his breath. If Charles could get it to give them information, it would be a great advantage. But if it was smart enough, lucky enough, and clear-headed enough, the owl could blow their whole plan. One message in thought speech to his buddies would tip them off, assuming the other birds were within range, of course. At the very least the condor was.
They would just have to risk it and hope for the best. "I hope you are almost ready for part two, because we are turned around now. It will just be a few more moments before we get to the other one."

<<Give me one good reason why I should tell you anything?>>
Charles thought about it for a minute before responding. "I'll give you a couple of them. One, you are all alone in a van with no particular destination in mind. Two, your friends have abandoned you to save their own skins. Three, if you don't tell me anything, then your condor friend will as he absolutely has no chance to escape. The only way that you are making it out of this van alive is if you cooperate with me."
He gave the bird a second to think it over before deciding that it was probably just best to knock the bird out now before anything bad happened. Charles reached for what looked like a broken broom handle.<<Alright, I'll talk. My name is Ordet 645, I was born in a Yeerk pool here on earth, and I don't know anything about the operation besides my part in it which was to reach out to other yeerk nonthlits.>>
Charles wasn't sure that he could trust the bird, but it was too late to change their plan now, so he bonked the bird on the side of the head and made sure that it was actually out before beginning his morph. He focused on the bird's image, while keeping an eye on the other bird. In the few minutes that it took to get to the condor, Charles was a spitting image for their captive. <<Okay Bruno, I am all set.>>

Bruno pulled up near the condor and stopped the van. He took a deep breath, then stood up and awkwardly squeezed into the back of the van. He was mildly surprised to see the original owl unconscious again. At least he assumed it was the original that was unconscious. Charles looked exactly like it now that he was in morph.
"If we are really doing this, then we gotta go all the way. We gotta make it look real, so don't go easy on me during your escape. I hope you are ready." Bruno covered the unconscious owl with some rags as he made his way to the back door so that you wouldn't be able to see it with just a glance into the back of the van. Then he opened the back door.

There was a sudden stop that continued with Bruno climbing into the back of the van, which would have been a lot more difficult if Charles had been Charles when that had occurred. He hopped out of the way as to not be squashed by the some-what silent giant that was making his way to the back door. This was the start of his first real adventure, so he hoped that Bruno would not forget to keep an eye out for him just in case things went south.
"If we are really doing this, then we gotta go all the way. We gotta make it look real, so don't go easy on me during your escape. I hope you are ready."
Charles didn't think that he was ever going to be ready to do what needed to be done, but that was not going to stop him from actually doing it. He began flapping his wings as Bruno opened the back door to go and retrieve the other bird. As Bruno began to exit the van, Charles took off out the door, but momentarily stopped as Bruno began to 'attempt' to put him back in the van. When Bruno raised his hands to grab Charles, talons met flesh for the first time, which Charles felt that it might have been overdoing it a bit. He decided to apologize in private thought speak.
<<Sorry Bruno. I didn't actually mean to hit you.>>
There was definitely no turning back now as he broke away from Bruno and headed up into the sky in search of the remaining two yeerks. He was silently hoping that he didn't forget anything that the owl had told him, or else he was going to be in a bind in a few minutes. Charles spotted the two birds flying overhead and began to make his way up to them. He would let them make the first move as he didn't think that he could just strike up a conversation without sounding suspicious at least.
