It was a lazy morning, free of missions or plans to go out. Nate was happy to have the day off from work, too. He was already growing pretty tired of cleaning up after animals, and he wasn't sure if it was more degrading being a "janitor" for rescue animals than it would be for humans. Maybe not. At least the animals saw you as another human taking care of you instead of cleaning staff to be ignored.
"So didn't SPECTER say in that message that we were getting some newbies today?" Nate asked, crunching his way through a bowl of cereal. "Or was that next week? I can never remember..."

It took her a while, but Rox eventually found the apartment. Part of the reason it took her so long to get there was because the first address on her list was the place where she had a job, where she would start working on monday. The second reason was because she still was not used to walking. While her legs were perfectly healthy, she still often felt the need to rest them from time to time. She was pretty sure it was all psychological though.
Nonetheless, she was here now. With her goldfish bag in one hand, she raised her other and knocked on the door. Time to see who SPECTER stuck her with. She waited silently for the door to open.

"Heeeey speak of the devil..." Nate pondered, heading for the door. He wondered who would be on the other side... hopefully someone cool. A dude he could party with, maybe. Or someone real hot. Yeah... that would be pretty sweet.
He reached the door and opened it. "Hiiiiii!" He paused. Hey, she was kinda hot actually. Then he looked at her hand. "...are you selling goldfish?"

Rox automatically shot him a dirty look and blinked twice for no. Then, annoyed at herself for allowing that lapse in her reaction and annoyed at the guy for his stupid question, Rox pushed past him into the apartment. "I'm moving in."
She set her goldfish down on the kitchen counter unceremoniously as she walked past it, then took a moment to look the place over. It was definitely better than her hospital room, but it still looked kind of dull in her opinion. "Call me Rox. Who're you?" She didn't bother turning to look at him as she asked the question. She didn't even know if he had left the doorway yet and didn't care.

This situation couldn't help but feel familiar somehow... Nate raised his eyebrows and walked over, poking the goldfish bag a bit. "I'm Nate. Were you sent by..." he paused. "...a mutual acquaintance or ours?" Mentioning SPECTER to a possible unrelated stranger was probably not a good idea.
He picked up the goldfish and inspected him swimming around in his little plastic bag. "...did you get a bowl?"

"I was sent by the government, if that's what you mean." She turned around to see Nate looking at the fish she had brought with. He seemed like someone who would get on her nerves after a while, but at least he didn't seem as bad as those two from the pet store.
Then he asked if she got a bowl and her optimism plummeted. If she had gotten a bowl then where would she be hiding it? She decided not to dignify his question with a response. Instead she rolled her eyes and went over to the kitchen cupboards and started rummaging around for a bowl of some sort.

"Oh so you are one of the new recruits!" he nodded, hopping up to sit on the counter, watching her a bit. She seemed a bit abrasive, someone who probably didn't have much of a sense of humor. That would have to be remedied, he thought to himself. All in due time...
"I'll take that as a no?" he suggested in response to the lack of answer to his bowl question. He lifted the goldfish bag up again, poking the bag some more and then looking back at her as she rummaged through the cupboards. "Does that mean you're planning on cooking this guy or just eating him raw?"

Andrea was watching the apartment from a distance and could not help but smile when she saw it. Her stomach had turned into a knot of nervousness but in the same time she was curious about the others she was going to live with. Hopefully they were nice peoples. Her eyes fell on the new skateboard she was carrying and her smile grew, at least she had a excuse to get out of the apartment if she had to. She shook her head, she had decided that she was going to change and now she was already thinking like before, it was true that she was not good with peoples but it would not hurt to give it a try? Andrea started to walk up to the building and soundlessly counting the steps just to make her from turning around and walk in the other direction.
The experiences from the first day in her new job filled her mind. It had been a normal day in the beginning, the boss showing her around and meeting some of her new co-workers when someone had returned to the place with a bald eagle and she had suddenly been in the middle of it but she had to admit that it had been fun and it was even more funnier that she now was able to morph into one and just soar trough the skies, but she still needed much training just to make sure she was able to do it perfectly. She was able to get into the air but when it came to landing, that was a completely other story. But she had only tried it once and perhaps she should try to stop having so high expectations when it came to herself.
Her feet stopped and she registered she was right in front of the door and she lifted her hand and knocked. While she waited for someone to open it she thought about what to say. It could easily be that they had friends there and it would not be a nice idea to mention certain words. Andrea wished she had a pet to keep her company just to make the wait shorter, what if there were nobody home?

"Raw," Rox said sarcastically in response to Nate's most recent question. Finally she found a salad bowl and took it out of the cupboard. She went over to the sink and filled it up with water, but dumped it back out when she realized she didn't have any fish food either.
Rox heard a knock at the door when she set the bowl down on the counter. She walked over to Nate, grabbed her goldfish bag, and asked, "Aren't you going to get that?" She began opening the bag as she waited to see who was at the door.

"Good choice," Nate responded to the answer, nodding. "Just make sure to add a little salt. They go down easier that way." He just grinned.
When the knock happened, he glanced towards the door and got so excited about another person that he didn't even notice when Rox took the goldfish bag from him. "Darn straight I am!" he hopped off the counter and quickly bounded for the door, throwing it open. "Helllooooo!!" He paused, looking at Andrea, and then...
"SKATEBOARD? AWESOME!"

Andrea was lost in her own thoughts trying to decide if she should wait her any longer or just leave and try again later. She could feel the urge to fly and it was tempting to just give in to it. Then the door suddenly swung open and she had to take a few steps back to avoid getting it in her face.
What a start that would have been...
She could easily picture herself clutching her bleeding nose. That was something she really wished to avoid. Her eyes feel on the boy that was now standing in the doorway. He looked to be around her own age questions started to pop up in her head but she managed to keep her mouth shut, for now.
She could not help but grin, perhaps he liked skateboarding. It would be easier to break the ice if she at least had something in common with the others that lived her than if not. Perhaps it would be easier to fit in than she had believed and the thought that she perhaps now was going to be accepted by someone, it was hard to describe it.
"Hi. I'm Andrea and was told that I should live here."
Noises from inside the apartment got her attention before she turned it to the boy again.
"We have a mutual acquaintance that sent me."
The words just popped out of her mouth and now she was happy about it but she was still standing there as her feet was frozen to the floor and she started to pluck on her skateboard and chewed on her lip.
Oh great. This is just the perfect moment to get a nervous breakdown. Get a grip on yourself!
She walked past him and put the skateboard down on the floor before she turned and looked at him.
"And you are?"
Andrea asked out of pure curiosity, he did seem nice perhaps he had just eaten a little to much sugar or something. That would explain his behavior.
"Are we the only ones or are there more?"
She did need to know. Hopefully they were not to many.
"And by the way, just call me Andy. Everyone does that."
That was a lie but personally she did like Andy more than Andrea and it was her name and she could do with it what she wanted.

"If our mutual acquaintance starts with an S... come right on in!" Nate wasn't sure if that was subtle enough or not. Subtlety was usually not his thing. Then again, neither was working for the government, so needless to say there was a lot he was trying to get used to...
"I'm Nate!" he stuck out his hand for a hand shake. "And I don't remember that one's name, but careful, she bites." He motioned towards Rox in the kitchen area. "There's quite a few of us now, but don't ask me to count them!"
Andy, hey? Boy's name. That's kinda cool...

Rox gave Nate a dirty look when he introduced her to the other new arrival. "It's Rox." She didn't avert her gaze until she finally got the stupid goldfish bag open. The little orange fish was swimming wildly around in its container.
Rox moved over to the sink and dumped the water out of the bag, using her fingers as a strainer to catch the fish. It started to flop around in the palm of her hand, but he grim was tight enough to prevent herself from dropping it. The slippery little critter calmed down somewhat as she began acquiring it. Once Rox was finished, she unceremoniously dropped the fish into the garbage can. She then readdressed her attention to the other two as if nothing had just occurred.

"Nice to meet you Nate."
She shook his hand and could not help but smile when he told about the other girl. It was slightly reassuring that there were more than only them. She gave the other girl a nod and did not give her any more attention before she saw what he did with the poor goldfish. What was her problem?
Andrea could feel how her rage was close to flare up and out of control and used some minutes just to avoid the urge to plant her fist in the girls face. She turned her attention to Nate and forced herself to relax and smile.
"So how are the sleeping quarters? Single room or do I have to share with anyone? Any rules I should know about?"
One thing was sure, if she was forced to share room with that girl it would end in either a assault if Roxi was lucky or even murder. She had never killed anyone before but some day have to be the first time or what? Animorph or not. Her eyes fell on the skateboard and she cold feel an itch in her body. Andrea turned her attention back to Nate with a glimmer in her eyes.
"By the way what do you do for fun around here?"
Yes, she knew she was bombarding that poor boy with questions but he was for now the only person in this place it were interesting to talk to.

"We share," Nate nodded, motioning down the hallway towards the bedrooms. "Guys are on that side, gals on that one." He paused, thinking. "Man, this is becoming more like a dorm or something..."
He grinned when she asked the next question. "For fun? Well, I like to generally combine two of any of the following," here he started counting off on his fingers. "Skateboarding, music, jumping on the couch, Red Bull, pushing people's buttons, underwear, eating, drinking... ... and reading." He glanced over at Rox. "And I guess she likes killing things. So, you know, it's gonna be a regular party around here!"
