Name: Leopold Asden
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Appearance:
Leopold is a handsome youth, with a somewhat toned body. Leopold’s skin is creamy coloured, due to his descent. His hair falls to his shoulders in the back, and it is straight. On the front, it falls nearly to his jaw, and when it comes up to his cheeks, it gradually goes up so that his eyes are visible. His hair is a dark brown, while his eyes are a softer, lighter brown. These eyes remain cold and distant most of the time. He has a non-prominent nose that turns up at the end. Across his chest snakes a fire-like birthmark; he is unsure if it means anything or not, but treats it merely as a birthmark. Leopold prefers to dress casually, in t-shirts, jeans, and tennis shoes. Sometimes he’ll wear a blue jean jacket over this.
Personality:
Leopold is a dreamer; many a time, he will be off in his own world. He has, as his past states, a passion for flying, and a passion for adventure. He couldn’t be happier working for SPECTER, and is highly flexible, as long as he’s allowed to fly in his free time. He loves birds, and has a connection with them, though he is fascinated with other creatures as well (because he’ll end up having to morph some, eventually). In social situations, Leopold can be a bit awkward; he really doesn’t know how to deal with most people, and at school, he had troubles with them. But he tries his hardest to get along with his teammates, and he’s a good sport who enjoys a good time.
Biography:
Leopold was born in London, England. He had two brothers and a sister. He was the youngest, and as he grew up, he was always teased by his brothers, and spent time with his sister, who he liked. Their father, who had job troubles, eventually became an alcoholic; constantly, he’d come home from the bar, banging the door, trying to get in. Leopold can remember a day once, when his father actually was able to come in, and broke all the lightbulbs in the house, telling everyone they should sleep in the dark. It was the last straw, one day, when Leopold’s father came home, and punched Leopold, breaking his nose. The next day, their mother filed for divorce, and, taking the children, moved to America after the divorce. Leopold was seven years old at the time, and began to grow accustomed to life in North Carolina – the state they had moved to.
Leopold would be picked on at school for being different; he tried to focus on his studies instead of those jerks, and eventually became the teacher’s pet. Still, Leopold was not happy, and turned instead to fantasy. He would pretend to be things he was not, in a world all his own. He had many adventures, but eventually, had to return to a reality that he didn’t know how to deal with: his mother was getting married. Leopold worried that the man she was marrying wouldn’t be right for her, but he quickly realised this wasn’t the case. The two were deeply in love, and ended up being in perfect harmony. And thus, John and Louise Asden were wed. John’s job was what would spawn Leopold’s fascination with the skies: he dealt in aeronautics. Leopold would go up into the air with his father on his airplane sometimes, and that was how he got to see the world below.
One day, as they were flying, he saw a hawk. He wished that he could be like that hawk; imagine being on top of the world. Fascinated with the bird, and with how the bird flew and acted, he decided to go volunteer at the local raptor centre. And then...the war came. And the swift victory. Leopold heard of the power to morph. He instantly envied them, though he doubted he ever had a chance of getting the power. So, he simply spent time with the birds, his main concern being a Krider’s hawk that had been harassed by an eagle and left to die. Then one day, he was approached by a SPECTER agent who wanted to recruit him for a new group of Animorphs. She simply asked him if he wanted to fly, then disappeared. The next day, he was kidnapped, and brought to a top secret facility. When he learned this was for real, Leopold was quick to accept. He wanted that power, and ended up getting it. Grateful for it, Leopold now does whatever is required of him.
How Leopold was recruited:
Leopold was so busy tending to the bird, that he didn’t see the woman standing in the doorway. There was no-one else in sight, so the youth slightly jumped as he was spoken to. “Leopold,” she said simply. “I would like to have a word with you.”
When she said this, the hawk was eating the mouse that Leo had provided. The youth had been off in his own world, imagining this bird as being free, when the woman had spoken; he nearly jumped out of his own skin. He turned to face her. He noticed she was dressed in a business suit – not really the style for around here. “Yes?” the youth asked, in his slightly booming voice.
“I would like to extend an offer to you,” she said. “I happen to know that you are a gifted child. All A student, if I’m not mistaken.”
Leopold, indeed, had made very grades in high school. “How did you know that?” he asked, suspiciously, instinctively standing in front of the bird’s cage; if she tried to harm the hawk, Leopold would hurt her. He wasn’t afraid of hitting a woman. He didn’t care about the consequences; he loved these birds, and was attached to them.
“How would you like to be able to fly, Leopold?” she asked him, not answering his question. “How would you like to be able to become a bird?”
“I would die for such an opportunity,” Leopold said.
“Very well,” she said, and left. Leopold pursued her, but by the time he’d gotten to wherever she’d seemed to run to, she’d disappeared. Confused, he returned to the bird, then proceeded to rest at the raptor centre.
---
The next morning, he headed into town. But while he was on the street, he was accosted by what seemed to be homeless bums – with knives. He thought they were going to rob him, but instead, they simply knocked him out. He woke in a white-walled room, sitting in a chair across from the same woman. She had a blue cube in her hands. “You are going to become an Animorph,” she said, before briefly explaining to him the morphing technology and how it would work, and that he should keep this an absolute secret. His duty was to investigate threats to the nation, perhaps even Earth.
“I’d be able to make a difference?” he asked, and got a nod. “I’d be able to morph a bird and fly, too?” Again, a nod. “Well then...how do I get started?”
She held the box out to him. “Touch a side of this,” she told him. He reached out his hand, and placed it on a side of the box, feeling a pleasurable tingle. “That’s it,” she said. Then, she explained about how he’d be able to get a job at the local raptor centre, working with the birds he loved.
Preferred Job: Raptor Centre. Leopold already has skill taking care of birds, and he's worked in one before. He currently cares for many birds, including a Krider's named Chloe.
First morph:
Krider’s Variation Red-Tailed Hawk "Sereneity" (Image): Upon taking his job, Leopold was greeted with quite a surprise – the hawk that he had so closely cared for at the Carolina Raptor Centre, where he’d worked prior to his “death.” He felt that he had forged such a closeness with the bird that when he was reunited with her, he acquired her. He still cares for the hawk, whom they had named Serenity. The hawk is partially white, with golden eyes. She still has a red tail.
Notes:
- This is my second character; I'm Crimea/Forlin/ the player of Jamilan.
- Yes, Krider’s is a type of red-tailed hawk. Don’t worry; Leo isn’t going to turn into some sort of Tobias clone.
- When I get to that point, I intend for his second morph to be a cockroach.
- This is a Hemington character. Soon to be an Arbella character.
- Leopold isn’t really going to be a flirt with all the girls. Should make an interesting addition to the group.
