A lot has happened since the day the animotph defeated the yeerks. For starters, all of the people who were once controllers are now free again. The yeerks themselves were given the option to become a nothlit in the animal form of their choosing. Similarly, the taxxon species opted to become nothlits in the form of large snakes. The hork-bajir moved to Yellowstone National Park and have made it their home. The chee went back into hiding and the majority of the human race still has no clue that they exist. It is likely to stay that way, too.
Surprisingly, after it was revealed that there actually were other alien life-forms out there in the universe, people took the news rather well. There were no major upsets and no violent wars were suddenly triggered. But of course there are always a few people who go against the norm.
The original animorphs themselves became instantly world famous. For the next few years after the invasion, they were the highlight of the media. Marco became their unofficial spokesperson, Cassie became a sort of environmental activist, Ax returned to his people with the rank of prince, Tobias went off to live on his own after Rachel's funeral, and Jack became a sort of instructor in the military after he got over his post-war depression. All but Cassie have now left Earth, but that isn't widely known yet.
Now, in the present day, four years after the animorphs defeated the yeerks, the world still has not changed much other than a few major differences. Earth has developed trade with the andalites, allowing for new technologies to be developed. While humans know that highly advanced technology exists, it has not yet been widely introduced into everyday life. Just as we now know that aliens exist and interstellar travel is possible, few humans have yet to even enter orbit. Humans are close to developing Z-space capable ships, but it will be quite some time before spacecraft are a common sight.
