Nancy smiled as each person in turn shook her hand. The girl she had met first, Christina, a guy, Jake, and another girl, Maya. Then Nancy sneezed again. She sipped her tea more and then became aware of another question.
"Uh, I touched the glowing box, if that's what you're talking about. That's it." Then Nancy looked around the group. Four people. And they were all ready and willing to clean. "I'll go upstairs and look around, see what's there. Any of you want to come with me?" She asked.

Cristina nodded greeting to Maya and Jake. Jake was a flirt. Plain and simple. She wanted to give him the cold shoulder and say he was at the wrong place, but right now they needed everyone there to help clean and what not.
Cristina looked over at Nancy and said, "I'll go with you." She wanted to get away from Jake, the flirt. "Oh, don't let me interrupt...I was just...you know, enjoying the view..." She shook her head as she started heading up the stairs.

Nancy smiled again and followed the black-haired girl up the stairs. The dust-covered stairs. She had set her tea down in the kitchen and now she regretted it. She pulled the collar of her shirt up over her nose, in attempts to keep the vile particles out of her olfactory organs.
The second floor was almost just a hallway. There were two doors on either side and a fifth door at the far end. There was the outline of a trapdoor in the ceiling, possibly leading to an attic. As she turned around, Nancy saw a large window in the wall behind the stairs and it had a small sofa under it. It looked promising, but dusty.
Nancy then whirled around and walked through the first door she saw. It was a bedroom. It had two beds, two dressers, and about a dozen shelves in it. It looked suitable for life, in Nancy's opinion.

Jake watched Cristina and Nancy leave. Now he was alone with Maya. He looked around. "So...this is it?" He shifted his feet. He glanced around the place. It was pretty messy. "Well, while those two ladies are upstairs, shall we keep busy down here?"
Instead of waiting a response, Jake went to find cleaning supplies. He started humming "Through the Fire and the Flames" by Dragonforce as he started in the living room. He was actually a pretty good singer. He just didn't actually sing around people. He stretched a little and then got back to work. He was also trying to think of the next song to hum.

Maya nodded. "I'll start in the kitchen, I guess." She grabbed some more cleaning supplies and headed into the kitchen to get to work. She smiled a little, hearing the humming from the other room, and filled a bucket with soapy water to start on the floors.
She pulled out the mop and got to work cleaning up the floors. She couldn't believe the dirt and dust that had accumulated in this place. How long had it been since someone had lived here? SPECTER sure hadn't sprung on the nicest of places, that's for sure...

Jake stood away from the fireplace, wearing a disgusted look on his face. "Well, well...looks like this could use quite a cleanup, wouldn't you say?" He nearly forgot that Maya was in the kitchen. "You don't have to answer that. I was just talking to myself. Completely normal." Yeah, if you're a looney tune... he thought to himself.
Jake slowly opened the fireplace and coughed as dust and old ashes went spitting onto his face. "Well, this certainly reminds me of something...but what?" As he went to get a rag to clean his face off, he remembered. He looked down at himself and saw his clothes were dirty, his face, his hands, his shoes..."Chim chim-in-ey, chim chim-in-ey Chim chim cher-ee!A sweep is as lucky, as lucky can be..." He found a rag finally after some searching and he cleaned off his face. "There we go." He widened his eyes, threw his hands up as if he were blocking something and said, "Ahhh, my eyes!! I can see!" Then he calmly went back to the fireplace saying, "Sorry, just had to do it."

Cristina went further down the hall and opened another door. "Man, oh man. We have a lot of work to do." Inside the door, things were overturned and dust gathered around objects like fireflies to an outside light. "This place hasn't been touched for-"
Cristina was about to continue when she heard singing. "Is...is someone singing?" she asked in disbelief. She listened some more and it sounded like a guy's voice, and it actually wasn't too bad. "Mary Poppins?"

Maya peeked out of the door when she heard Jake talking to... himself? She wasn't sure. He seemed a bit odd, that's for sure, but she couldn't help but lean against the doorway and watch in pure amusement when he started singing again.
Finally she spoke up. "...Mary Poppins, huh? Never would have pegged you for that kind of guy."

Jake looked up at Maya and laughed. "Yeah...well...you don't know a lot about me then..." He shook his head. "Kidding. I had a niece that absolutely loved that movie. That and The Lion King. We watched that movie so much I think I may have the whole script embedded into my brain."
Jake inspected the fireplace with a critic eye and then said, "Moving on!" Boy, aren't you talkative? Gah...must be the nerves taking over. He threw away the trash and started dusting the room. "What about you? Do you have anyone that you miss?" That sentence revealed that he missed his niece, even if he didn't like to show it. He hoped she didn't catch that.

"Cute," she shook her head, wheeling the mop bucket to the corner of the kitchen since she was finished that job. She grabbed a broom and headed into the living room to help him there, starting to sweep up the dust and dirt that had accumulated there.
"Fireplace looks much better," she nodded as he looked it over and moved on to dusting. Then he asked his question, and she could help but stop what she was doing completely, caught off guard by it. She stared off in thought for a moment, face growing stone serious, before she quickly snapped herself out of it and went back to sweeping. She cleared her throat and finally responded with a simple, "Yes. I do."

((*pokes head in* This thread isn't -too- too old for a new post, is it?))
Keith couldn't pretend he wasn't a little disappointed to be going North, of all directions. He hadn't wanted a new life to begin with- his friends and his family were still back home, living their lives with him gone for good- but he'd been willing to deal. He'd always been good at adaptation.
But really, he'd been hoping his new address would be in South Beach, Miami, or maybe some nice little cottage on a beach in Costa Rica or something- or maybe even the classic locale of the oldschool Animorphs, in Santa Barbara.
But they were hugging the East Coast and going North. He was stuck in Maine.
At least they hadn't left the beach behind. And the paper he held in one hand said something about a Safe House- which meant he'd be meeting some of his teammates sooner rather than later, he suspected.
After checking the address on the mailbox against the neatly printed address on the paper, Keith jogged up to the door, the guitar case slung over his shoulder bumping against his hip with every step. He paused, took a deep breath- he couldn't believe this was happening. What he really joining a group of vigilante shape-shifters in New England? What happened to his music, his apartment, his ferret, his life?- and then knocked on the door. His shoulders relaxed as he let the air out of his lungs.
Yeah, it really was happening. No turning back now.

((not at all too old!))
Maya lifted an eyebrow when the knock at the door echoed through the house. Another one? How many of them were there, she wondered. "Well," she said, resting the broom against the wall and giving her hands a little dust off. "Guess I'll get that."
She headed for the door, wondering what new person had arrived now. Hopefully someone else willing to clean, because it was going to take them forever at this rate. She hummed to herself quietly as she headed down the hallway, finally reaching the front door and opening it. She blinked as the sudden sunlight hit her eyes. "Hello?"

Keith raised one eyebrow as the blonde woman opened the door. She was... well, she was pretty hot. And she was going to be living with him, indefinitely.
So perhaps things could be worse.
He leaned against the doorframe, flashing his lopsided grin and holding out the paper with the safehouse's address for her scrutiny. "Hi! I'm Keith Michaels, and I'm going door-to-door selling magazine subscriptions for my scout troupe. This week only, I'm offering 12 full months of Ranger Rick's Animal Adventures with every purchase of a subscription to Shape-Shifting Crime Fighters Magazine. Interested?"

She couldn't help but grin back at his infectious smile. Well well well... she thought to herself as she looked him over. This could get interesting... She took the paper from him, scanning it. It was definitely this address all right.
She glanced back up at him as he started into his speech. She snickered a little. "Shape-shifting crime fighters, eh? What kinda crazy are you talking about?" She handed the paper back to him. "Looks like you're in the right place though. We've put our stuff in the hall here for now... SPECTER seems to have set us up with... well... a dump. So we're kinda working on cleaning it right now. Hope you don't mind pitching in...?" She questioned him in a tone that was less of a question and more of a statement. They needed all the help they could get!

Well, in all honesty, Keith didn't really want to start cleaning. It'd been a long trip up from Maryland and he was kind of wiped out- but despite the fact that she was smiling and joking with him, he was definitely getting a less-than-entirely-light vibe from her, and he was thinking that going along with what she thought would be the best thing for him to do would be a lot less work than trying to convince her to let him relax for a while.
Still, as he hauled his gym bag and his guitar through the front door, looking around, he couldn't help but think that it was a lot nicer looking than his apartment- a little dustier, maybe, but not nearly as grungy. "It doesn't look that bad," he protested, dropping his stuff down with the rest of it. "What all needs to be done?"
