Naomi cruised the mall with a hat on her head and black gloves on. It wasn't her usual outfit, but she needed to stay out of sight. She looked around and wondered why she was there again. Shaking her head, she walked into the pet store.
One of Nadia's favorite places, she remembered. It caused her to smile a little sadly as she watched two kittens playing.

Johnny looked up from where he was feeding the fish on the opposite wall at the far end of the store. There hadn't been too much business today, but all of the cages still needed mucking out. He saw a girl walk in.
"Hey," he called out in greeting to her with a smile on his face. Just a casual greeting to a not so casual girl. Most people didn't wear gloves and a hat to the mall in a town off the Gulf of Mexico. But maybe the girl was just very cold? Johnny shrugged and went back to cleaning the tank.

Naomi was lost in thought and she almost missed the greeting. She looked up at him. "Hey, there." She smiled. She checked to make sure her hat was secure and then said, "The animals here are amazing."
Naomi knew her next stop was probably the new place the SPECTER people had her going, but she didn't want to go just yet. She was nervous about the whole thing and wished she hadn't been recruited.

Rox stepped into the pet store. She hoped to be in and out in only a couple minutes. She should really be headed to the address that she had written down in her pocket as soon as possible. She had this sneaking suspicion that those SPECTER guys who dropped her off would be following her. Although it was just a suspicion.
"Hey you. What's cheap?" Rox paid no attention to the other girl in the store. Rox was supposed to be an animorph now, so she wanted to morph something that wasn't quite as symbolic as her dove form. Or at least not so symbolic in a hopeful sort of way.
It would take Rox a while before she got used to speaking out loud again. And moving, too, for that matter. She was all too used to laying by herself in a hospital bed with nothing but her thoughts for company. She looked around the pet shop almost as if it was her first time in a store, yet somehow she managed to remain unimpressed.
(OOC: I eventually plan on her buying a goldfish)

((Well, there's a 20% discount today so she'd better hurry!))
"Yeah, they are," Johnny agreed with the girl. That had actually been the only reason he was still working there instead of quiting after WRAITH or whatever it was called, dropped her off. He smiled again and dropped his head back down to put the lid back on the tank. There were no fish in there. Yet. It was a new tank.
There a not-so-friendly voice made him look up again. He wiped his hands on his khaki pants as he forced a smile towards the new girl. In an even tone, he said pleasantly, "Hello to you too. Well, the mice are only $1.20," he pointed to a cage against the wall by the back. "Goldfish are on sale for 20% off behind me, and parakeets are $3.50. tHat answer your question?"
Since Joel was the only other employee currently on duty, Johnny walked over to the check-out counter and stood behind the cash register. If only the second girl would leave. The first one seemed rather...nice, to say the absolute least.

A mouse sounded like it would be a good choice. But she realized that she didn't have anything to carry it with and she doubted she would be allowed to just carry it out of the store in hand. "Gimme a fish. A plain one."
As she waited for her 'order,' Rox finally glanced at the other girl and attempted to categorize her. She shook her head and smirked at the way the other girl was dressed. She made no attempt to hide her reaction either. There was no point in being polite to people she would never see again.

Naomi watched the interaction between Rox and Johnny. Needless to say, she didn't like Rox's attitude towards Johnny. Or towards herself. She had been completely ignored; she supposed she didn't mind all that much but she had to bite her tongue to hold back what she wanted to say. She liked Johnny; he was cool to be around even if it were for a short while.
Naomi raised an eyebrow when Rox looked at her. "What are you looking at?" She wanted to know, her tone curious. "Is my hair messed up?" She really didn't want to start anything but apparently she couldn't hold the sarcasm back.

"What are you looking at? Is my hair messed up?" Was that a hint of sarcasm Rox detected? She had only just met this girl and already she rubbed her the wrong way. Although that was true even before the other girl said anything... "No," Rox responded plainly. "That's the problem." Rox contemplated trying to ruffle the girl's hair, but that would have required her to touch the other girl. She ultimately decided against that. "You would look much better with a mohawk," she finally said with a completely serious face. But she soon had to look in the other direction as a smile spread across her face. The thought was just too amusing.

"Sorry, we're all out of crabs." Johnny said with a hint of disgust in his voice. "Oh wait, I'm sorry. You said 'fish', not 'sibling'. My bad." His voice held no glimmer of remorse. She was definitely not going to be getting any favors from him. The jerk.
As he walked back towards the fish tanks, he couldn't resist. "I think your hair is fabulous as it is." He said playfully. After all, what harm could a single flirt do when he was never going to see the girl again? Although she did look a little familiar. Someone that he had seen a lot lately. He pushed it to the back of his mind. He'd figure it out later.
Then he grabbed a plastic bag and looked for a plain fish. The most expensive one, preferably.

Naomi raised an eyebrow at the remark about a mohawk. "As would yours," she said dryly. Not a second after she said that, Johnny spoke up and she had to smile. "Thank you, you're sweet."
She stood up and looked around some more and saw a goldfish. Raising an eyebrow at Johnny, she quietly pointed at that one. It seemed to be really expensive, and plain. Twenty percent off though. She shrugged then.

"I know," Johnny said to Naomi after her compliment in an I-get-that-all-of-the-time voice. He scanned the rows of titles on the tanks to locate the most expensive one. Well, piranha cousins looked promising, but they were on the cheap side.
He glanced up for a moment to check on the customers. After all, he'd get in trouble if one of them stole anything. GHOUL (or whatever it was called) had given him the job but that didn't mean it couldn't be taken away. It just so happened that the first (attractive) girl, whom he was going to temporarily call Girl A, silently pointed to a tank of fish. Goldfish. 20% off, but they were still pricey little suckers.
He smiled at Girl A and took the lid off of the fish tank. He grabbed the net on the side of the tank and plunged it into the water as well as the fish bag. When the bag was waterlogged, he swifty scooped up a fish and plopped it into the bag, ready to give it to the second (mean) girl, whom he was now going to call Girl Mean.
He then proceeded to walk to the cash register (after putting the lid back on the tank of course. Wouldn't want any fish to escape!) to complete the transaction. "Here ya go." he said in a forced smile and happy tone.

Rox stood at the register and glared daggers into the guy's back as he packaged the fish. She automatically despised anyone who insinuated that she was a crab. She was looking around the countertop for some employee rating cards or something by the time the guy returned with the fish.
"How much?" Rox asked flatly. She was a bit curious to find out how much a 20%off goldfish cost. She pulled out her wallet (she didn't like purses) and prepared to pay the man so she could get out of the place.

Naomi watched in silence once more, smirking at the fact the price was up there a bit. She sat back down in front of the kittens. She wanted the girl to leave. It was giving her a headache.
Rubbing her head to get rid of it, Naomi turned her attention to the kittens. She still listened to the girl and the guy though. She was already having a hard time keeping her thoughts inside.

((Rox doesn't like being called a crab? Weird...XD))
"How much?" Johnny repeated. "Well, that'll be $16.24, without tax." You see, that is why you always tried to get on the good side of employees. She gave him very loose descriptions so he made the price VERY expensive. And hey! That just means the store got more money!
He placed the fish bag on the counter and glanced over at the other girl. She was watching the kittens again. Johnny didn't blame her. The kittens were awesome. But so were the cockatoos, parakeets, dogs, lizards, spiders, mice, and most of the other pets. He wondered if she might need some...assistance. He smiled at the thought, then made it vanish as he remembered who was in front of him.

Rox just stared at the cashier guy sternly for a moment. "Funny. How much?" She said it with poison in her voice so that he would know that she was not amused.
She set two dollars down on the counter because she 'knew' it wouldn't cost more than that. If mice were a dollar twenty, and parakeets were $3.50, then there was no way a stupid goldfish would cost that much. She stared daggers into the guy as she waited for his 'real' response. He better be joking, she thought to herself, clenching a fist by herside.
